First long trip in the truck!

I just got back to Texas after taking my truck on a holiday trip. I logged 4368 miles in just under two weeks and averaged 17.3mpg. I have to say it's a nice ride to spend a long time in, nice and quiet, comfortable and I got 620miles out of one tank, which is just crazy. I'm not used to being able to drive as long as I want and having to stop only because my bladder or the need for food would get the better of me. I'd get 18.5 if I kept it right around 70 but a long time cruising at 80 would net me under 16, this is all hand calculated, the overhead display was much more optimistic. It never had a problem doing anything I asked of it and after a tank of crusing at 70 the tail pipe would be completely clean, no soot or anything which I found kind of amusing. 80mph would keep it black. The '08 steering stuff helped a lot, even without a steering damper and I didn't have any problems with the driveshaft being too long even though I was a bit nervous at the start.

I went from Fort Worth, TX to Sacramento, CA straight through in 22hours. Then took it up to northern california and almost up to the Oregon border, then south all the way down to LA before coming back to Texas. There were many stops and local driving in between but that was the gist of things. Other than the mileage I love my truck. Just thought I'd share.

Glad your truck did well. Funny you mentioned the mileage and how it outlasts your biological functions. I think the same thing just going between DFW and Corpus Christi. The truck can do the 7-8hr stretch at one time, I can't!

Thanks for the post, I like my 04.5 a lot and hope we have a long relationship.

Mine's got no mods but I looked at every other manufacturer and am still sure I made the right choice.

My wife and kids loved taking my truck from LA to Phoenix (6 hrs) so she didn't have to stop for fuel at those scary desert stations in the middle of nowhere.

Glad you had a safe trip.
