Fact or Fiction - warranty voided
Fact or Fiction - warranty voided
I was reading on another forum that one of the moderators had the warranty on his truck restricted because of Chrysler monitoring the diesel forums. His sig had all his mods listed for his new truck and had his warranty "voided". It sounds like he was asked to bring his truck by the dealer under some other pretense and he unknowingly complied and was caught.
If Chrysler/Dodge/Cummins is in fact monitoring, we are going to have to be a bit less open as to who we are.

I wouldn't worry about that. They have to prove it. The Moss Magnuson Act might even apply here. As far as I am concerned, I bought the truck taking it's life in my hands. I have just started the mods and it's only going to get more powerful as the truck becomes less depended on.
if one dealer voids it take it to another all dealers are different. One of the dealers around here sells performance products and I have never heard of them voiding a warrenty yet. As soon as they do they are going to be in big trouble because you do it to some and you have to do it to all.The main reason they want to void the warrenty is because they get paid $10 less an hour to work on warrenty work and recalls
ATTN dealers. I have twin turbos. 1 downloader, stacking 2 modules, full exhaust(stack), aftermarket oiled airfilter, southbend clutch, aftermarket lift pump, I modified my cp3 myself, a bunch of gauges, and modified my ecm harness for fast idle and smoke switch. I participate in dyno events, I have sled pulled, I speed. I change my own oil, use fleetguard filters, and used aftermarket ujoints when the stockers failed. Build me the truck I want or leave us alone.
There, do you think that stops them from being suspicious of me?

If one dealer places a restriction on your truck, it is visible to ALL dealers! They would then have to jump thru some hoops to get the restriction lifted. There would be field reps involved more than likely as well. If they do repairs without confirming the labor operations first, they could get really hammered! The biggest thing is , if you play , you pay. Plain and simple. Most people that complain, shouldn't have anything coming to them under warranty anyhow, but that is a whole other subject. I have always been fair, and if the vehicles mods didn't cause the problem, then I'd let it slide. A downloader isn't going to make the radio quit, or make the windows quit working!
You get the poin though. You are correct on the lower rate they are paid for warranty work though. In the big scheme of things , they are still making money at it, it is the tech who gets the shaft. The dealer pays the tech "flat rate". Chrysler sets the "flat rate" time. The dealership gets paid the "flat rate" no matter what. When it takes the tech twice as long as "flat rate" to perform the repair, he still only gets paid "flat rate". Makes the paycheck sickly sometimes!

It always depends on the dealer, their mood, your mood and the situation. Having a good relationship with the dealer is not always a good thing. There are always dealership people on these forums watching, reading, and answering. Some of the best input is from dealership employees. Normally the human ones. Just talking to some techs is the best thing you can do. If you are found out, don't go out of your way to hide it. If a u-joint snaps on your twin-turboed, nitrous and propane injected truck while you are sled pulling. You can bet it won't be warranty. However if a recirc door breaks it shouldn't make any difference how many programmers are stacked on it. Sometimes some issues are resolved by showing an owner that it does or does not happen on another vehicle.
One example is a friend of mine with a Durajunk was having some fuel issues (no really) and under the advice of others in the forum, took his truck into the dealer. His service advisor was a member of the forum and recognized him from his posts. Of course initially my friend was overcome with fear of being voided out, but the postings actually helped his case. One thing was all his symptoms were documented. The other was he didn't hide his edge box. Also he had the backup of numerous other owners having similar complaints. Just because that dealer didn't see it didn't mean it wasn't happening. What better way to find out. Long story short, his vehicle was fixed.
It's no big secret that people modify their vehicles and a dealer shouldn't act like it is. If the truck is driveable then the option is yours to drive away and choose another dealer. If it's towed in then that's different. Even in my own experiences working at dealers for a while, I know who I want working on my vehicles. That is my benefit and your right. Employees move around a bit here since it is such a flooded market. I have talked to my own service director about taking my truck to another dealer because that is where my tech works. I had used our sister stores diesel guy before and there is no comparing between the two. I have one better. There were rumors of insurance agents hanging out at dragstrips and writing down plate #'s when the vehicles went down the track. Supposedly this would happen and your rates would skyrocket or you would be cancelled. Don't know, maybe urban legend? It all comes down to talking to someone that knows what they are doing and of course finding that person. I like being able to extend what little knowledge I have, and somtimes it is helpful to others.

Just take it to another dealer. My dealer of choice sells edge products IN the showroom, and has told me that he will warranty any problems with my truck, even if the edge caused it... As long as I take it off beforehand, if the chrysler reps want to come out to take a look at the problem.

There is a guy on another board who is a wealth of diesel knowledge and a few years ago this happened to him. He ended up disappearing from the boards because of it. He's back in a small capacity but I think he now lives in Brazil or South Africa or somewhere like that. At least that's what his sig says..
My truck is stock and my sig shows it......
