EZ Down Tailgate

I just installed an EZ Down dampener and it seems to work well. However, it doesn't slow the lowering of the tailgate like it shows on their website video. It is definitely slower than a free fall, but a small child would still get their clock cleaned. Is the dampener adjustable? Does anyone have a phone number for EZ Down? I tried call the number on the website, but it does not work.

I did a search here and it sounds like a lot of people have them installed.

Thanks.

Google search them and get the number off their web page. Mine slows the gate down considerably. Sounds like you may have a bad damper.

Not to offend, but is the dampner installed right side up. My works fine, but the cable gets pinched every once in a while, I will add a longer peice of foam to fix that.

I installed one a couple of months ago, and it works great. the tail gate goes down real slow, so slow I have to wait for it. Sounds like you may have a bad dampener.

Thanks for the replies.

Mopeman, the dampener is mounted correctly. It can be only be installed one way because of the mounting tabs. Thank goodness!

It seems like everyone has to "wait" for their tailgate to lower all the way down. After I unlatch the tailgate, it lowers all the way down after I count "one-thousand-one". Is this how long it takes for yours? I may be expecting it to go too slow.

That's way too fast. There's something wrong with yours.

Can someone post a good photo of their install? I tried installing this product a couple months ago and the parts that came with it were too wide and would not allow the tailgate to close, the gas strut would hit the tailgate as it was closing. I called the company and they sent me some new parts, but the exact same thing, the gas strut still hits the tailgate.

Their website has a video of the actual installation. I watched it because I want one. My last truck was hooked up to a bumper pull camper and my wife unlatched the tailgate which fell with a lot of force.. onto the top of the trailer jack. Nice dent that had me cursing everytime I walked by the back of my truck. If I would have had one of those, it would have gently landed on that darn trailer jack.

Here's the link to the installation page. The only thing in the video that wasn't as easy as they show it was removing the existing bolt in the side of the bed where the new, longer bolt allows the EZ Down to be installed. My bolt was painted in place from the factory, so it took a little extra oomph to get it out (and I heated it up too).

It really is a fifteen minute install, though.

Installed mine a few months ago. It was a tad bit slower when it was first in, but I still have to wait for it to go down all the way.
