Question Electric Window Problem

My windows from time to time decide that they don't want to roll up or down. It's only when the person at the window wants it to go up or down. no the child lock is not on. I usually have to roll the windows up and down for passengers can anyone help me find a likely place to fix this problem?

its most likely in the Drivers Door Switches, the power for the other 3 door switches comes from there... Bang the arm rest a couple times, that fixes mine for 6 to 8 months... There are quite a few posts on this problem, if not here then on that Cummins site

With the cheap and cheesey wiring these trucks have it best to start looking at the wires in the black rubber boots along the door edge. These wires are prone to insulation pulling off and wire snaping from fatigue due to the 90 degree bends in the harness. This is cause by just opening and closing your door. Just do a search on rear door locks in the third gen forums and you will see what I am talking about.

I was not sure if you were talking about the rear or the front, but all doors can have this problem. Try moving the black boot to the door that has a proble while trying to raise or lower the window. Then if it works, pull back the black cover and do a thourough search for shorts or ground outs. Then splice in new wires and better insulation.

If you can't find a problem there then you might try pulling the switch out and trying to sray some elect. contact cleaner onto the contacts

Mine is the window lock switch . I usually mess with it and the windows start working. Need to pull it apart and replace, when I have time.....

I just replaced a switch in my Buick that was doing this.

It was pretty easy to get a new one from NAPA and plug it in and verify the problem.

Funny thing is, the Napa one broke in a week and I ended up getting another one from them that has lasted for months now. I'm really good at swapping them out!
