I'm going through that right now - trying to install 6x9 Infinity Kappa's in place of the stock door speakers on my 07. The factory "Infinity" door speakers are just woofers, and when I connected the new full range speakers the highs and mids were non-existant. The front door speakers share a cross over with the dash speakers. I don't know if that is a function of the amp under the dash or if there's an actual crossover somewhere I need to bypass. Or can I bypass the amp altogether? I don't want to yank out the REC head unit just yet - it has an amp built in, right?

Not sure of the REC having an amp but the crossover is a function of the amp itself. If you look at the wiring diagrams it will show the output of the each individual speaker by location. I would bypass the amp but then you would have to wire the amp to the rear speakers because they are the only full range signal unless you tie in before the amp.

The amp for your Infinity system is behind the glove box. It is acting as a crossover blocking the high frequencies from your door speakers. The head unit is not amplified. You can by pass the stock amplifier by using a line output converter, but you need to connect it to an after market amp. Out of curiosity, did you notice a sound difference in mid and bass with the new Kappas vs the stock paper 6x9s?

I noticed they weren't as efficient, that's for sure. Either that or the fact that the new ones are 2 ohms might be causing the amp to limit current to them.

Looks like I might just have to think about an aftermarket amp. Before I do that though, here's another question: Non Infinity trucks that have the REC - do they also use an external amp and if so can I swap it with the one I have? That would be an amp for a 4 speaker system, and that would get me going until I upgrade the rest of the system. The fact that they offer the REC in non Infinity trucks is what made me think there might be at least some amplification built into the REC itself.

I think just the REF and RAQ radios are powered (66 watts total power). I have not seen the REC without the Infinity. Mopar does not list it as being powered, but I'm no expert. Are the stock speakers you replaced 4 ohm? I have heard of some folks replacing the dash speakers with Infinity Reference 3022cf and the front doors with Infinity Reference 6010cs using only the just the 6.5" woofer. They said CD and sat radio music had a cleaner sound.

I just went to the Dodge web page and tried to build one with REC and no Infinity - no can do. Same goes for any in dash changers like the RAQ.

EDIT: The above is wrong. It depends on the package of the truck. You can get an REC with only 4 speakers in a Larmie J, but not in an SLT. Laramie H (what I have) has 7 speakers no matter what.

The speakers I bought for the front are the 693.7i's and for the rear I got 6022si's. I guess 40 watts or so x4 should do the trick. I also have a self powered MTX sub for under the back seat.
