What size speakers are direct replacement in the front doors? Is there more than one size that will fit?

Can anyone tell me if I have the 4 speakers or the 7 speakers? 2006 SLT with the Thunder Road, no nav, no cd changer, not Infinity, has satellite radio, has an aux jack on the front of the radio, and has the "half moon" cutouts. I know there are 4 speakers in the doors but are there more under the dash in my model?

 

00dog- You should have the four speaker system. Those cool looking holes in the dash are nothing more than cooling vents unless you have the Infinity. If you want to know for sure, crawl under the drivers dash and look up. You should see the hole and lot's of light coming through. Great place for some mid-range or tweets.

 

The front speakers are 6X9. Like said above you can add a set of 3 1/2" speakers in the factory tweeter holes in the dash. Changing the speakers and adding the ones in the dash make a world of difference.

 

You just have to be carefull with depth, I think there is a 2 7/8 in limit.

This link will lead to 77 speakers that should fit. I'd recommend looking at the 6x9s, but that's me. The reviews should indicate which work well with stock radios and if they have base kick or more accurate tones.

I fit Pioneer 6x9s in the front(use your factory plastic spacer, and make sure the connectors/box on the back of the speacker is towards the front, to avoid the power window gear)

And Pioneer 6.5s in the back doors.

Both made a world of difference, and after upgrading the head unit and adding a amp/sub it will sound even better, now I just need the money to do it...

 

First post Yeah!!!! Same situation, just put in Infinity 6x9's in the front and Boston Coustic 5.25's in the rear. Fronts sound ok back suck. Appointment for 600w amp on thursday. Should sound good I hope.

 

Well I just put in some Alpine SPS-69C2s and while they are better for most sounds, the bass is actually worse. It took two spacers (to clear the window) which the car audio place was nice enough to give me. I'm not totally happy with it but I imagine putting a sub under the back seat will make for an all around decent system.

 

I put in some Polk DB 6.5"s in my rear doors....and fabbed up a plate to fit a 5.25" Polk DB component set in the front.....sounds awesome.

 

Polk wakes up the system, fantastic speakers.

 

I just ordered Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6"x9" 3-way's (front doors) and Infinity Reference 6022si 6-1/2" 2-way's (rear doors), and they should be here tomorrow. Unfortunately it's supposed to rain for the next several days, but once I get a chance to install them I'll report back with the results. I chose these speakers because they are efficient (loud for a given amount of applied power) due to the fact that they are 2 ohm speakers. My truck has a seven speaker system and REC Nav from the factory, but I didn't order replacement front speakers yet. I figured I'd wait until I hear it without them since I'd have to buy two pairs to get three speakers. I don't currently plan to replace the NAV unit or add an amp, but that might change depending on how the speakers alone work out. I already have an MTX self powered sub for under the back seat, which is also waiting for good installation weather, although I might install that today.

 

Front - 6x9
Rear - 5.25 but 6.5 fits

I put 6.5" MBQuart PCE's in the front and turned the rears off. I wouldn't suggest using the holes in the dash for tweeters as it will actually mess up the alignment of the sound stage. If you're not planning on a subwoofer, then go with 6x9 in the front to preserve some of the low end. It's all subjective anyways and it mostly just depends on how into music your wallet is.

 

i used memphis m-class carbon fiber speakers front and back. great highs and mids, but needs an amp for better clarity. i put tweeters at the top corners of the windshield. that centered the sound to ear level better, which i needed in order to overcome the L5 15 sub in the back.

 

Hey guys I have a ?. I have heard with the infinity system you cannot replace the speakers with just any kind. Is this true or can I put in pioneer or rockfords?

 

IIRC - some of the 2nd Gen trucks actually had the amps on the back of the speakers. The 3rd Gen's have an amp behind the glove box. You should be fine to replace the speakers. (But as soon as I reply someone will tell me I'm wrong LOL)
