There seems to be several aftermarket 3-lamp clusters available. Some are LED. See www.grote.com

Please explain? I didnt think that was a DOT thing cause what about the other models that dont have the light on the tailgate or below it at all? And also when towing with your tailgate off you have a trailer in the way so that wouldnt help you anyway?

Old I.C.C requirement for vehicles over certain width. Same as required for front cab clearance lights. Rear light bar of three "center" and two side red lights pattern required.
Federal law has just recently been passed banning all the extra lighting, like you see on a lot of the big rigs, that interfere with the standard patterns, both front & rear lighting. They are slowly getting around to enforcing the new law. Alot of lobbying by all of the trailer manufacturers that build the trailers with incorect lighting patterns against the new laws.

Yup. If they interfere with the standard I.C.C. pattern they gotta go. Starting to let drivers know in the "chicken coups".
Some of those rigs are so bright they look like the sun coming up when they come over a hill at night!!

I have a camper also.

I extended the wires so they hang out the hole in the bed far enough so that I don't have to crawl underneath anymore.

I swappped my DRW tailgaite for a SRW tailgate. The brake light in the middle of the tailgate is horrible.

I agree! My Ford and GMC dually buddies give grief all the time. My old Chevy's with the five lights across the tailgate look better than that big red sausage does.

To each his own I suppose?

I think if I was going to go with a below the tailgate light I would go with one of those LED lights that go all along the bottom I dont mind those either.
