Drove two 05's today

Drove two 2005 SLT quad cab 4x4 dually with 3.73 rear ends. One had six speed and the other an auto.

Upon driving the stick, I was amazed that it was a completely different animal to what I am used to. My wife drove it too, and she had a big ole smile ear to ear. Liked everything about the stick, but the price. Then drove the auto, wife just sat bored. Auto very civilized and confortable, but it seemed a little like a pooch compared to the stick. I thought that it was just me thinking that I just really wanted the stick, but my wife even said the stick one feels faster and more powerful.

Hoping to finalize a deal tomorrow

James

PS this truck is so much taller than my current one, does anyone know if running boards from a 2nd gen could be modified to fit a 3rd gen

the stick won't be faster. these trucks are not sports cars. i have had both and the auto is much faster. you don't lose boost with the auto like you do with the 6 spd. i also enjoyed shifting my 03 but i like my 05 auto much better.

just my opinion though.

I recently purchased an '05 quad cab short bed auto. I thought about getting the stick but decided the auto would be more practical. It has tons of acceleration- comparable to my v10 gas guzzler I traded in. I imagine the stick will get better mileage as you can control the shift point. Good luck. You'll love either one.

The auto will be faster if thats what you want. Keeps the boost up. Most guys into modding and racing go for the autos as they tend to be quicker at the expense of durability and cost of building up and auto.

For us, it wasn't an issue from the beginning. She can't (won't) drive a stick. We got ours to pull our next purchase, a 5'er and she'd be too overwhelmed pulling and shifting. Interesting, she has no problem riding/shifting her motorcycle...
