Drive thru experience

People could never hear me everytime I pulled up in a drive thru to order food. They are always complaining about my truck being too loud. How often does this happen to you?

One lady asked me if I can turn off my engine so she can hear me. I said NO.

Shaft, you should get in a 1st or 2nd gen and try that. Now that's loud!!

Ours are a bit quiet compared to the older ones....

My truck got a lot quieter after putting a new LP on so now i only have to turn it off at a few places not all of them as before. My wife laughs when i have to turn it off. She thinks its funny.

I usually turn mine off at the drive thru speaker so that I can hear THEM. I want to make sure they got the order right. SWMBO has severe food allergies and our ordering process is a bit more complicated than that of your average fast food consumer.

I can't believe this topic!!!! How timely . . .

I was going to post that the maiden voyage of my new 600 included a stop at McDonalds to pick up some drinks and to see if I could place an order (and get the right stuff) with the engine running.

YUP - Mission accomplished. It's still a little noisy, but NOTHING like my old 7.3 PSD. I always had to turn that puppy off.

Most the noise that inerfers with the intercom is comming from the oil pan area of the engine.
I have had good success in my old & even the new truck by pulling forward a couple more feet before placing my order. Try it it works better than you might think.

I cant believe the 3rd gens have a problem with noise. They sure are quiet. I cant HEAR the intercom with mine running soo it gets cut off most of the time. I think the drive through people are just being too picky with you guys.

If I drove up on a bicycle they'll still screw up my order. That's just McD!

Mine failed the drive thru test also. So far, only made it through one Burger King drive thru without shutting my engine off (I think I'm at 1 out of 9).

I remember Cummins or DC bragging about how quiet the new 600's are that shutting down your engine for a drive thru is a thing of the past. Yea..ok!

Go through a Sonic drive thru, with that metal overhang you can get a nice echo! You can't even hear yourself talk in there. I always have to shut it off, no matter where I'm ordering at though.

Yea I found that if I can hear the engine noise bouncing off the speaker box they can't hear me. So I also pull up a couple of feet or until I can't hear the engine bouncing off the speaker box any more. Works every time unless you got "deaf boy" in there, then you got to shuter down. Now that works on my stock 04 but I just order my intake and exhaust last night. We'll see if I end up with some jacked up order that I never wanted.

I don't want to take credit for it, I read it on this site. But it fits well

"No Ma'am I will not turn it off!" I think of it as pay back for all the times I couldn't hear them.

I'm not shutting off my engine to go through a drive through, period. When on the OBX I go to the McD in Kitty Hawk all the time, easy and close... have gone through there 15 or so times, the last time the girl asked me to shut the truck off becuase she couldn't hear me I said that's funny the guy at breakfast time this morning could hear me just fine. That was the first time I had been asked to shut it down at that location. and yes, she had the whole order correct BEFORE she asked me to shut it down. They are just being picky and get a kick out of it I think.

And I too pull past the order speaker

Can't visit drive thru's or ATM's anymore.

They put them waaaayyyy to close to the ground.

ATM's, I have to get out, so I might as well just walk up to it.

Drive thru's need to hire people with longer arms to take my money and hand me my food.

Not to mention I have one of the "real" Diesels that actually make noise, so I'd have to shut down.
