Disco light show, another trip to dealer [LONG..]
This is my first try at this guys so PLEASE 'bear' with me
I bought a used 2003 3/4 4x4 HD crew-cab Cummins [auto with OD] that was already setup for towing, I tow a GN 4h slant Exiss horse-trailer with partial livingqtrs. I had no problems when I did the first trip from NY to Illinois & back in 3days BUT shortly after the light show began. The first show in NH everyone thought I was sitting in the trailer hitting the panic button on a keyless entry...I had 2 after market ones on the keys but they didn't work, it was the truck 'doing it's thing'. This got so bad that the dogs are barking all night and I can't get the lights to shut off!! I said she's possessed!
Now it's not funny anymore. This is the 5th trip back to the Dodge dealer, so far they have re-set the computer, said it must be towing the trailer that is messing it up [the last time I had it over there for 10 days and it started the light show the same night I got got it home, in fact they stay on so long the truck won't start in the morning]. It's been +$600 in the last month, I had no light's the last full moon we had--I couldn't get them to turn ON!! Most nights I can't get them OFF!! The last bill was for a "diogn adn FCM module" HELP

It's just a wireless signal of some kind. Do you have anything like it in the trailer that may be setting it off? Does it ever do it at the dealership when it is no where near the trailer?
I called the Dealer this morning and they said it finally did the 'show' lastnight after they pulled it into the shop. They also couldn't get the lights to turn off.. this is the first time it did it non-stop like it has been doing for me. It had aftermarket alarms in it but they disconnected them when this first started, that was the problem they thought. It doesn't matter if I don't hookup to the trailer or if I park it at work [no trailers there] or home. I read on one of the replies here that it could be the ground wires. My question is, if hauling a trailer causes this problem, why have a 3/4T HD truck just to 'drive around in'?
1. Are you sure that the aftermarket keyless entry/alarm is totally disconnected?
2. Does it just give you a light show, or does the horn honk too?
3. Has the truck ever been flooded, or has the engine area been washed with a high pressure sprayer?
4. Do you have new batteries, and do they have good clean connections?
5. Do you have any electrical goodies installed besides the keyless entry/alarm?
This is just a wild guess, but it sounds like a possible short in the system, a bad ground, bad batteries, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I called again today..still in the shop and thye have NO CLUE why it is still doing the light show. No the horn does not blow at the same time [THANKS for small favors ;o) ] It had aftermarket alarms and remote starter in it..this was all disconnected [per the dealer] and I didn't get a keyless fob with it but for bells & whistles it has it all.. DVD player, Radio-CD player, auto seats, windows-doorlocks-delayed lights when you get out at night/ for lights.. as for being in a flood I don't know, it was already set up to tow with the rail system. I had the electric brake put in by a trailer dealer here. I didn't start having problems with it until a couple months after I had it and had been towing with it for the 2nd week I purchased it. I've had the same horse trailer for 4 yrs. and towed it with a Chevy-dually and a 2003 3/4T Dodge that wasn't HD. This truck out hauls them hands down. I get 18-21mpg here around town & 13-17mpg hauling the trailer. Can't beat it! Just need to get it over the disco thing..I'm fast approaching fat-and-fifty!! IF they get it fixed I'll be sure to let all know. SSKO
