i am going to change the oil in my diffs. What kind should i go with? i live in houston, tx.

 

I use Royal Purple 75-140wt.

 

should i add any locktite or anti sieze to the bolts when i reinstall them? and the gasket is reusable, correct?

any other tips, suggestions, things to do while i have the diff cover off?

 

also what is the torque spec for the bolts?

 

I wouldn't add any thing (locktite etc) to the bolts. Just tighten them until they feel comfortably snug.

It is very easy to overtighten these bolts and break them off, even at factory specs. Yes the gasket is reusable, just wash it and wipe it clean before reinstalling.

You may want to wipe the inside of your pumpkin out and spray some brake cleaner in it and wipe again. Once it is dry and clean, just reinstall the diff cover and add your fluid. You will be good to go. Oh...and don't add any additives. This is an AAM axle, not a Dana....and the AAM's don't need any gear additive.

I use Mobil 1 75w90 fluid with no problems....and I change out at 20k intervals.

 

Like TexasCTD said, be careful with torqueing down the bolts, they can shear pretty easily.
If you use Locktite go with the blue, not the red.

BTW, I'm using RP 75w-140.

The gasket is reusable, and Mobil 1 is also a good oil. No additional anti-slip addative needed inthe diff.

 

I used Mobil 1 also no additives and no problems, it's been in for about 25000 miles now.

 

does that also go for the front diff. on a 4x4?

and how much fluid is needed for each axle?
