Defroster Not Working
Today I noticed that no matter which way I turn the dial for the A/C controls it will only blow air out of the front vents. It will not blow out any of the defrost vents on the dash, at the front windows or in the floorboard...only out of the front cab vents. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?
Mine got stuck like that before once during the summer.I kept moving the switch and restarting truck and it has been ok ever since. You may have the problem with door being broke though. There has been a few people with the door problems. If your still under warranty take it to the dealer.
Hoss I am shocked that a long term member would not have known about this problem. It has been discussed many times on this site. There is a TSB on the 03s for this problem. It involves the replacement of broken blend doors in the heater box assembly. If your 3/36 warranty has expired, the repair is on your dime. Mine sometimes acts a little sluggish also. Yep, I am also out of warranty. It's too bad DC won't cover a known defect even though the truck is out of warranty.
blend door was busted on mine too... i just need to wait until warmer weather hits to see if my a/c is still working after they did the blend door change out [discharged&recharged by dealer]
Mine is also busted. Flows about 50% defrost, 50%floor when on floor mode. A/C works great here in Florida. I'm gonna rip it apart in the summer. I think I'll take a cut and butcher approach and cut the heater box open to see what actually broke before I discharge the a/c. Thd dash had gotta come out but only a couple hour job.

Until now, my truck has been completely trouble free.
So, I'm sitting a little over 60,000 miles which means the repair is going to be on my own dime. Any idea what it's going to cost me? Is this something I can do myself? Anyone have a link to the TSB?

Man! I can't believe how long you have been a member and still don't know where to find TSBs!!!!!
Here's your link!

Mine has been partially screwed up since about 40,000 miles but I was too lazy to take it to the dealer. I just keep switching from the vent setting to the defrost setting and eventually it will switch over. It seems to work better if the fan is on high. I just leave it on floor/defrost all winter and on A/C all summer. Saves me the hassle......

Mine also just started to act up. I tried the different fan settings and nothing happened. So when I shut the truck off to listen for the flapper movement, nothing happened. 44,000 miles and can't direct the heating and cooling. Later I tried it with the fan off, it worked but sounded weak. When I finally left for home, it worked like it did when brand new. I can't believe this episode is over with though. I like to know the cost out of pocket also. The TSB said it was a little over 3 hrs worth of work. Messing with the airbag and air conditioning is what turns me away.
The part is about $150 Cdn. The problem is that you have to disconnect the ac lines according to the TSB to remove the part so you have to have the machine to collect the refridgerant and then charge the system back up. . Hoss I will try to find the TSB on this matter.

Hey Forstner: I tried that method tonight and IT WORKED! I've been without defrost for about two weeks now. So on my way to my BB game tonight I turned of the fan, and cycled the deflector control down then back to defrost and sure enough - I had defrost....hopefully this is a solution, and not just a temporary thing.
