Well I debadged my truck with the exception of the small cummins on the front fender. On the doors you can see where the ram 2500 was. Is there some type of rubbing compound or anything that I can make this blend in with? Its not terrible but it is noticable in the right light conditions.

 

I used the Mequiar's ScratchX on my 2007. Like you I could see a ghost of an outline at the right angle in the right light. It seemed to help.

In your case, I'd be concerned that the paint had faded around the badges since your truck is older. If so, you may never get it to blend totally.

 

I agree with the paint fading.

Try a Mr Clean magic eraser, other than that, you might have to try a very light rubbing compound, but I think that the paints faded.

 

If it is light where you can only see it in certain light conditions, you should be able to get it to blend, but you may not be able to to it by hand. If you get a good polish and a orbital you will be able to make it blend. Not a cheap orbital either, it would have to be one that can turn up some rpm's. I made mine vanish on my black truck with the right stuff. If it isn't bad you may be able to get away with a hand polish like mentioned above. The only reason that I had all of the stuff is because I do detailing on the side. If you don't have the right stuff, it may be cheaper just to find someone to do it for you, but you need to find someone whe will do it right. If you would like any details, just let me know.

 

I'll try the meguiars and the mr clean magic eraser and see what happens. If not, I may just take it to a shop that knows what they are doing and see if they can buff it out. I cant see it costing too much for such a small area.

 

x2 on the Meguiars scratch remover! That is GOOD STUFF! and it acts as a wax too.

 

I just did my 03 a few weeks ago and had the same problem. I also used the Meguiars Scratch X by hand and it worked flawlessly. It took several applications, but now the shadow is gone from any angle and in any light. I applied a few coats of the wax that has the color in it, and then waxed the whole truck with carnuba, and you would never know they were there.

 

I vote for the Meguiar's stuff also.

 

I would be cautious about using a Mr. Clean magic eraser. They work great on certain things, but I think if you read the packaging they come in, they caution against using it on polished surfaces as it may dull the finish.

I've used the Meguiar's scratch remover too, and it did an okay job. Sounds like I just need to go back and do it a few more times to make sure it works it's way through the residue left by the badges.

 

Sounds like the meguiars is the ticket. I'm gonna pick some up today.

 

I can tell you this about that soft little white sponge, they do far more than you would ever imagine. I had some paint on my arm that I couldn't get off washing, and there was a Mr. Clean eraser on the sink, so I used it on my arm. The paint came right off, but a few hours later my arm was raw and hurt like heck. It scabbed up and took 2 weeks to heal. I would definately not use one of these on a clearcoated surface, as you don't know how much damage is being done until it is too late.

 

off subject for a sec but what the heck is in the magic erasers they work great on getting marks off of things but there really seems to get nothing there other than a funny feeling sponge.

Picked up some scratch x today, gonna give it a try. We'll see what happens.

 

Now on my truck which baked in the baker, ca. area for 3 yrs., I used acetone very carefully. It did not eat at my clear at all and removed the out line. I don't even have any color diff./variation. Can't tell that I had any badges. I bought the acetone at home depot, home repair chain.
