dead batteries

Why does my truck sit for 2 weeks and the batteries are dead? I just put in some Gold Carquest batteries and there is no change. It's not in reverse, the dome lights are not on, and the key is out of the ignition. Where's the draw? It was so dead tonight that the dash bulbs and door chime wouldn't even work.

Something is shorted or a closed curcuit is causing the draw down.

You will need to charge the batteries. Then you can check which curcuit by disconecting the batteries ground cables. Attach a VOM to the ground post or the cable of one of the batteries and to a good ground. You should see 12 volts on the meter. Pull each fuse and circuit breaker one at a time. When the voltage drops you have found the curcuit with whatever is causing the draw down.

If you have a meter that has at least a 10 amp setting, use that instead of the volts. There is always a very small drain on the batteries even when nothing is wrong and the amps will work better at finding the culprit.

Caution: do not turn the key on- lights or use anything that will pull a large current while the VOM is connected, you could destroy the meter if in the amp setting.

I noticed you have a fluid harmonic damper. Can you tell if it is much better than the stock damper?

That's a good way to nail it down, thanks.

I think that the balancer quieted down the engine and clutch noise and makes the mid and top rpm smoother. Just driving at 65 now the steering wheel has less vibration in it. Worth it IMO.

Make sure that the useless little light under the hood hasn't come loose from its mounting. If it hangs down, it will stay on and totally drain the batteries in less than a week.
