Getting Closer

Ok I used terpentine on it and let it soak for about 10 min and it has now turned into a more "Rubbery" (is that a word) texture rather than the hard glue that it was. I can't do anything with it until I get home on wednesday but I think I am going to try the 3M adhesive remover and if that doesn't work I guess I'll try the 3M eraser wheel.

Thanks everyone for the comments

Dave

If you havent got it yet I would suggest putting a heat lamp on it for awhile then trying some adhesive remover.

I tried using a hair drier on it to try and loosen it up (I don't think I'll hear the end of that for a while)) and it got hot enough I couldn't touch the door, but it didn't do a thing to loosen the glue. Now that it has soften up a little I may try heat again my wife picked me up a can of 3M adhesive remover so as soon as I get home tomorrow night I may go back to work on it.

thanks again for all the advice.

Hair dryer, lighter fluid, teflon spatula. No damage to paint or clear coat. Then wax on, wax off.

Don't know if it was mentioned but Denatured Alcohol won't harm paint/clearcoat. I used the citric acid version of goof-off for mine.

Do not try this! It will eat the clear coat!

Luckily I tried it in a small area in the bed.

the 3M eraser will not harm paint. i just did a tacoma de-badge last weekend and have done 4-5 dodges myself with one. unless they put the badges back on with something that turned hard like a super glue, the fishing line or dental floss should slice them right off. then you can soften up the left over adhesive with 3M adhesive remover(a light solvent) or rub off with the eraser wheel- use a slow speed drill and dont sit in one spot and generate a lot of heat!!!! also make sure to clean the area first. i used glass cleaner and a micro fiber towel. the dirt and eraser wheel would dull paint/scratch.

I believe some-one said that would be a little hot

Try some toluene in an inconspicuous place like in a small area in the bed.

No Lowe's/Homer/Hardware/paint stores? my town of 2,000 has it at the lumber yard and the True Value store in the paint section...

Did you try the part store for the 3M adhesive remover ? Do you have any (vinyl) sign shops in town they might have something that would work..

If my memory serves me correct your town is not much bigger than mine.. Our group was coming back from a river trip up north and we ended up in a "Idaho Spud Field" with a convoy of trucks/trailer/rafting gear trying to find the shortcut to Jackson Hole Wy

Give vegetable oil a try. I've used it on some stubborn adhesives before and it worked better than anything else I had tried.

Have you tried WD-40? I've had pretty good luck removing adhesive residue with it. It may or may not help with your particlar application.

I removed the rubber moulding from a VW Jetta not long ago...same glue residue left behind. I used the W-40 and it helped, but was still a lot of work. I was able to remove all the glue then wash the WD-40 oil off with soap & water.

Good Luck!
