Sounds like the only "cool" thing on the new F-series with the 6.4L diesel. Many guys would love to be able to do that, on demand of course .

Did I read the article right? They are going to reprogram the computer to power down? to "fix" a leaking injector?

So, there is no charge for the "after burner".

"The automaker will have dealers upgrade software for the powertrain control module, which will power down the engine under higher-than-expected temperatures in the diesel particulate filter"

I thought they did a bunch of testing on fleet vehicles for many tens of thousands of miles? Wouldn't that high temp issue come up then?

I know no auto maker can find all the problems but this is something I think they should be paying very close attention to since this particulate filter is fairly new to the diesel world.

Sucks that Ford is already having these problems. But that's what happens when you want to go over the top with an engine that is WAY too complex. I'm starting to think Ford will use an in-house engine come 2010 when emissions change again. Between all the scuffles with International and the reliability issues with the 6.0 (and now 6.4 apparently), it doesn't seem they'll be partners much longer.

I think the Batmobile had a similar option

Poor Ford! I hope the don't fire any engineers over there as they have been keeping my family fed and kids dental bills paid for years. If they correct these engineering problems on their vehicles won't be able to eat as well

With a build in barbecue, I hope they take some hotdogs while waiting on the side of the road.

Looks like FORD will stand for something else...Flames On Rear of Diesel....... Maybe this is just Fords RICE version of the powersmoke..

And it seems the 6.4 is following in the 6.0's footsteps....

Kinda nice to have a motor with a lot of heritage in front of you...

It looks like we will need to put the old tin can over the tail pipe when starting in the barn.
