Converted a hemi owner!
i came across a dodge truck talk site and there was post with hemi vs. cummins. well to start it out this guys friend has a cummins and wanted to race his hemi... heres the rest of the post
Well the results are in. I raced the Cummins with the Hemi. It was a pretty close but the Cummins prevailed through the entire race. We raced 2 times from a dead stop up to about 80 MPH. The Cummins was beating the HEMI by about 1 to 1/2 of a truck length throughout the race. THAT IS IT I AM SELLING THE P.O.S. HEMI!!!!. The only good use it has is keeping the guys at O.P.E.C happy!! The Cummins was getting 16mpg during the race comapred to my 8mpg. I don't care what anyone says the Cummins is a better motor all around, especially the new "600" it is rated at 325hp....only 20hp less than the HEMI and it gets twice the fuel economy, not to mention the A$$ load of torque it delivers. It may cost more but is uses cheaper fuel, longer oil change intervals, and holds resale value better, plus the motor lasts twice as long.
For what you spend on exhaust and C.A.I. on the Hemi, you can buy a fuel box for the Cummins and walk away from a HEMI.
My overall opinion, if you buy a 2500 or 3500, get the diesel. It is far more superior than the HEMI. The HEMI is only good for a 2wd sport truck!
Diesel Power RULES
I wish I would have realized this when I bought the HEMI......what a dumb A$$!
Ordering a new 600 in the fall!!!
HEHE i love this truck

Yeah, throw me on that list too. When the wife said "O.K.", get your diesel", she couldn't finish the sentance fast enough before I had one sitting in the garage. Best vehicle I've had. PERIOD!

I had my hemi for about 6 months before getting a Duramax (then a Cummins later). Even with the big hit I took on the trade is was still worth it to get rid of it. What a big disappointment that truck was. I can't think of one good thing it did...besides looking good at the pump.
My buddy's '03 2500 QC LB Laramie with Hemi is a nice truck. He gets 17mpg highway and 14mpg city. I get 18.5 city and 19 highway. It would take a chipped Cummins to outrun his Hemi. His flat H/A for a heavy truck. If not for the Cummins, I wouldn't mind having the same truck with a Hemi.

I had an 03 2500 QC LB 4x4 Hemi as well... but I must say that off the line, the CTD really doesn't stand a chance. The whole reason I traded in for this truck is because I want to modify the engine and there just isn't anything out for the Hemi. So, I thought about it and got the CTD because there are a ton of things to do with it. I had both trucks for two days so I could take everything off the Hemi. I'd drive the CTD around and could notice a little difference... but didn't feel too much. The last day I had the Hemi and was taking it to the dealership, I could definatly feel a big difference between the two and don't feel that a stock CTD would be able to take a stock (cause there's nothing out for it) Hemi.

BTW, did your Hemi have 4.10 gears? That would definitely make a difference off the line and get the gasser into its powerband quicker.

That's one really big reason I went with the CTD... there's just so many more goodies out there. But yes, you are right... that is off the line without the Turbo spooling up. And no, I only had the 3.73's in my truck.
