Conversion to Dual Climate control??

Is it possible to convert an SLT to the dual side climate control? Has anyone done that and how much would it cost and what is involved. The wife is cold blooded and I am hot blooded...what a combo.... 8) 8)

I have the same issue with my wife. The price of the Laramie package was worth it for the dual temperature control alone. Converting it would not be cheap even if it is possible.

I agree with Casey 100% - my wife prefers a bit higher temperature than I do and she loves the dual climate controls!

Re:Conversion to Dual Climate control??

I have the same problem with my wife, buit neither one of us likes leather so we didnt want the laramie.

Technically it looks doable. Dual zone consists of using both the passenger and drivers side outside air doors. The Std system uses only the Drivers side. The control panel drives either 1 or two motors which control those doors.

It really depends on if the std system cam with the passenger side motor already installed. In that case it would simply be changing the control unit. I have not pulled my apart to check it out.

Sometimes its cheaper to use the same parts of laramie and slt then to stock to seperate configs. On my toyota the security system was installed on all trucks but unplugged on the ones were the security system was not purchase. All I had to do was plug it in.

The easiest thing to do would be to open up the center dash and look for wiring from the pass side ductwork. Otherwise if that is missing it looks like its easy enough to add. According to the service manual everything else is the same except for control system.

Re:Conversion to Dual Climate control??

get her a heated seat. Aftermarket. I put them in my SLT and sure are nice on the rearside. 129 bucks a seat, my install, switches on the dash and all. 3/36 warranty to boot. Same co that supplies car manufactures...I didn't want the leather either but did want a hot butt....HTH

Great idea....did the dealer put them in?? Or did you do it your self? Also how long did it take you? Was that for one or two? Thanks for the info...the light went on...

Re:Conversion to Dual Climate control??

129 a side, I put them in, took me 15 mins to unbolt the seats, 10 mins to put the heater grids in the seats, and 10 mins to reinstall the seats. (mebbe longer the neighbour was tanning with a wee little bikini on so I just hadta chat with her ;D) The wiring I ran to the dash so took me a bit longer, probably a 6 pack all together. Was a breeze, but I was an auto mechanic for years so no sweat for me. I put the switches right side of climate control, so it looks like they should be there. VERY nice when the back is sore or stiff on the drive home. A/C on for the front, heated bun warmer for the rear.

Poor Man's Dual Control costs $0.00. My wife has learned to turn off the air vents on her side. When it's her turn to drive she wants three vents turned her way.

Re:Conversion to Dual Climate control??

:'( I`m sure the case for the dual H.V.A.C. is not the same. i.e. mounting for the blend door and the actuators. Plus the control head and wiring. This modifcation could be done but the costs would be beond your wallet. If you could justify the cost, finding someone to perform the work and do a good job would be almost zero. But I could do it. ;D $$$$$
