CD's stuck in '04 in dash changer...again..

Well about 40k ago my original in dash cd changer got stuck while switching cd's, and was replaced under warranty. Now at 96k the same thing has happened. Every time I start the truck or turn on the radio, it makes some clicking noises, like it's trying to switch or access a cd, but gets stuck. Is there any way to try to fix this? As much as I'd like an aftermarket stereo, I've had too many stolen and would love to get the stocker working again. Any thoughts/experiences appreciated!

There just was a thread about this. Do a search and you should find some information on it.

I did a search, found the thread, but it was a different issue. Has anyone removed/taken apart or figured out how to unstick these in dash 6disc changers? Thanks

I had the same problem on my 04.5. Theres a round spring flat washer thing inside which breaks loose and drops down into the unit. I forget what the dealer charged to trade it out - some nominal fee which was cheaper than buying a new unit outright. Being the cheapo that I am, I took mine apart and could not find a way to repair it so I put it back together, paid the fee and swapped it. Dodge removed the CD's I had in there and mailed them back to me. I was concerned about damage to the CD's as they had some clause relieving Dodge from any damage responsibility but thankfully none of the CD's were damaged in the extraction. I believe that DC knows the 6 disc in-dash unit has problems, the techs at the dealer sure knew, that's why they developed the swap program. Mine only broke once and the swapped unit lasted until I traded the truck.

I just called. They want $590 for the swap with a brand new unit or $290 to repair my radio.

Looks like I'm checking into aftermarket.

With the aftermarket unit get one with a removable face plate if available. This has definitely saved my kids getting their systems stolen. I don't know if a disk changer model has this feature but it might be worth looking into.

Hoot, I had my 04.5 truck's original in dash stereo/cd player eat a CD a long time ago. I took it to the dealer, under warranty at the time, and they replaced it with a new one. They also gave me a check for $15.00 I think it was for me to replace my CD.

Anyway, after a few months I bought an aftermarket stereo to use with my IPOD.

If you are still interested, I still have the, like new, replacement factory stereo/cd player. Send me a PM and make me an offer!

That is a great offer TexasCTD but I'm gonna pass. Thank you! Maybe somebody else reading this will take it.

Looking more into this it looks like the front speakers need to be replaced if I go to an aftermarket unit because they are 2 ohm? Is this correct for an 04 Infinity system?

Lightman. I've had an issue with mine. Seems to be only CD's one and two. The rest seem to load and unload fine. My solution (and it's worked 100% of the time so far) is when the stereo is trying to unload one of the CDs and I hear it making the noise it makes over and over, I just bang on the dash above the stereo and out it comes. Not much of a solution I'm sure, but it'll work for me now. I just keep 2 of my favorite CDs in slots one and two and change the rest out. Didn't see any reason to take it to the dealer and have them charge me an arm and a leg to repair it (I ain't got too many of those left, considering that I'm paying that already for fuel). Plus, I have plans to replace the head unit eventually.

I have the same problem with my '06 single CD changer. It sometimes to be heat related. If teh dash is cool then no problem. If the sun is beating on the dash then the CD player won't spit out the disk or play it.

My original CD player did that while under warranty and was replaced. Now my truck is out of waranty and just had both batteries changed and it's doing it again. I'm thinking about changing the radio out. Does anyone know if a satellite radio can be installed?

I think a lot of the problem has to do with cd's that have printed labels stuck to them...in both cases that mine went bad - granted both had 40k miles of use time on them, but both times the cd playing that got stuck had a printed label. Maybe they get hot, expand, and become a problem to read or eject. I dunno.

Hoot, check with a different dealer - dodge wanted 300 bux to exchange my 6disc in dash out for a new one. I told them that was more expensive than me putting in the alpine I have sitting at home as well as the door lock repair when it gets stolen...lol......they came back and dodge split it with me...$150 got me a new 6disc installed, which was worth it to me for peace of mind. I've had 5 stereo systems stolen out of my vehicles in 3 states...a couple in 'secure' garages with card acess and cameras...I've learned to live with crappy stock radios...that hopefully work

Mine just decided not to spit out the CD's and now the "mode" won't even go into CD. It will be covered under the extended warranty. i was wondering if there is a factory unit that will go in my 03 that I can connect an Ipod into? This would be the time to do it.
