CB Radios mounting and selection

I have been thinking about installing a cb in this rig for those long hauls and I haven't decided what to get for a radio or the best place to mount it. I have been leaning towards a smaller radio that I could mount in the cubby hole at the bottom right next to the ash tray/change door to keep it looking clean in the cab, but I sacrafice power for that. Anyone have any good ideas? I haven't bought any equipment yet either so any input on equipment would be much appriciated.

I have one of Big Bob's mount's and I really like it, it is heavy duty and I needed that because I have a Galaxy 959 that is a really heavy radio. I am running twin 36in Firestick II on the front corners of the bed, they tuned down very nicely, 1.7 on 1 & 40 and the meter won't even move on 20.

I use a Cobra. The control unit hides beneath the centre console, just the mic is visible. I also use a remote speaker with firestik stake pocket mounts. Cobra 75WXST
Mobile Compact CB with Weather Channels.

the cobra 75 is the way to go if you want something small. i have this radio hooked to a wilson 1000 on the cab, SWR is 1.2

i tried the firestik fender mount with a 3' firestik, stainless whips are the way to go. fiberglass is awful imo.

Here's a link to his gallery with the CB mount pics. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/.../20494/stype/0 He doesn't have any classified ads listed on DTR. You can always PM him.

Wow this is some good input, I really appriciate it. big bobs is a nice bracket however, it is far to big for the small space between my shifter and transfer case shifter. I am leaning more towards the indash mount. Maybe a little creative engineering will yeild a solution. Thanks all!!

This was my thinking also. I looked at Big Bobs mount (in his rig) VERY nice bracket - I just thought is was too big for a (my) CB. It gave me an idea though. I bought a piece of steel strapping (about 2'' wide x 12" long) from the Home Depot, bent it in a vise so that the angle of the CB was perfect for my veiwing while driving, painted it black, drilled a hole in the bottom so that I could use one of the existing seat bolts (got this idea from Big Bobs bracket). This set-up looks great. In fact, because of it's size, and the way the CB is mounted/angled, you really can't see the bracket at all, which is what is was striving for. It only cost me a couple of dollars and about an hours time.

I have a smaller CB and an integrated CB antenna (AM/FM/CB) antenna.

I just bolted the CB bracket onto the ashtray. No big deal.

Easy to see, use and does not take any knee room.

cheers f
