I have mine velcroed to the front side of the jump seat. This makes it easy in and out of truck.

I mounted mine length wise. Mounted to the console, on the right side. Its out of the way that way. Doesnt bother passengers eithers.

Im way tall so I couldnt even mount a brake controller around the column. Need all the length I can get.

I have my brake controller under left side of dash and CB under the right. I am 6'9 and do not have any issues. How tall are you to have leg room issues?

I second this. Works real well and is out of the way for all.

Probably not the best spot. In a crash, you'll end up with a broken hip and a shattered knee cap. That's the reason that area of the dash is padded, and not solid steel any more.

I only use the CB on long trips. This mounitng is temporary and easy to install/remove. I don't know what your interior seating is but this may help. FYI

Genos Garage sells A real nice mount small or large. I use the large and it has enough room for A full size 10 meter radio, watt meter.remote switch

Talking

I have mine mounted where the 4wd shifter would be on my 03. I pulled the tray out and mounted my stand for the bracket there. The radio then lays almost flat and tucked up out of the way. I've got a 6 speed with electric shift 4x4. My General Lee and Galaxy 99 both fit like a glove and they are large chassis radios.
I put the external speaker under the radio. The stand is the type used in police cars to mount their radios. It is VERY sturdy and the radio doesn't move around
