What do you think about the cost? A little steep?

I didn't do the install myself, but I'm pretty sure the Recon kit came with a harness that tied into the factory wiring in the A-pillar. The cab light kit from Mopar also comes with a template for placing the lights but I think it only comes with amber lenses. There are a couple of threads with pics and write-ups of DIY install on cab lights.

I'll do a search and see what I can find. Thanks Evil.

I'm just deathly afraid of putting holes in my roof then mucking it all up

I don't think it's steep at all. Around here, $250 adds up to about 2.5 hours. I can't imagine doing it in less than that and would think it would be over 3 hours to get them all straight, sealed up, and the wiring spliced, soldered and sealed. I'd prefer to take more extra time and tap the wiring into the trailer tow relay to keep the load off the headlamp switch.

I didn't realize it would take that long....especially with templates and harnesses included.

Can you buy the actual factory harness, connector and all which will just plug into the A pillar wiring plug?

Yes you can get the factory harness for about $32. The part number depends on exactly what options you have on your truck. Part number 56051299AB for Cab - Roof lamps - Wire harness - W/auto dim mirror W/o telematics comm. Part number 56051370AB for truck without autodim mirror. There is a thread on this website at https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...+light+install. I just recently did the install myself. I found that the best way for me was to just buy the kit with the template from dodge and use the harness, etc.. that comes with the kit. The only thing is i would suggest you go spend the extra money and get the updated lights (part number 55077559AD) with the rubber seal, and just modify the template yourself. I had no problem doing the install it is really easy if you follow the information on this site and just use common sense.

I had recon lights installed aftermarket on my 04. the dealer qouted $275 for the install. I went with the cheaper guys shop down the street for $200 install and have been paying the price ever since. Half the time, one or more lights do not come on. The issue is that Recon's system is designed to ground the lights to the roof of your truck with the same sheet metal screws used for the install/mounting. This design is cr@p after 2-3 days of stiff spring 4x4 diesel truck bounding down the road. Proper install will include running a ground wire along with the pos+ into the running lights toggle switch.

If you get this install done - i seriously suggest having them run a decent ground wire for you.

If anyone actually likes the older style, with the orange lenses, you can buy that kit at Pep boys for about $20. I've got a second gen, (01), and I did the install myself. It's rained on them, and everything else, and I've never had any leaks. This is the second truck that I've installed them on, and haven't had any problems with either truck leaking. What I did was just measured the width of the roof, and then divided that into 5 equal parts, so that my lights would be evenly spaced, found center on the roof, measured each light up from the windshield, and went from there. Installation was easy. I didn't have any preexisting wiring for them, so I ran the power line down my a pillar, into the engine compartment, and spliced it into my parking lamps. I don't remember what Blazer said the amp draw was, I think it was 2 milliamps, so no real issues there. One other thing that I did was once I got the bases mounted, I ran a bead of black silicone RTV around the base, and once that dried, it eliminates any possibility of a leak. I figure, about 30 bucks all told, for lights, wire, and some RTV...a whole lot better than 250 +.

I paid 115 bucks to have my local audio/ tint/ glass shop install mine. They don't leak either.

recon

I put recons on my truck. No harness, no template, youll have to wire everything yourself. Eyeballing for about 2 hours and using a tape measure finally marked drilled and installed. Used silicone on each screw to ensure no leak. Ran a toggle switch to cut off and on. I like the toggle switch at the pulls you can just run clearance lights, noone figures it out.

i got a set from the junk yard for one of my trucks for 50$ or you can get the recons from their site for about 70 bucks but they have no template or barely enough wire. if you get a role of wire you can run them down on the passenger side pillar and they will hook up like factory. also i recomend running the ground wires to the pillar as well because mine flickered like a christmas tree when they were grounded with just the screws. i went and measured a duallys cab lights from about ten defferent angles and then got a 1 1/8 inch holesaw, if you pull your headliner down there are already holes on the inside so you shouldnt screw up
