This is the inverse with the 06's. The Auto has a lower final ratio than the G-56 so it will get about 10% better mileage than the manual gearbox. You will not get the high numbers with the G-56. The G-56 running a 3.73 is close to the Auto running a 4.10 rear.

My 05 is just breaking in now with 31,000 miles on it, and I'm starting to see 17 mpg +/- average.
There is no way a 7000# truck doing 70+ mph on the freeway is going to get better than this. The guys getting 20 mpg are driving handshakers, and 65 mph-.

My best so far is 15 even. Half highway with a 500 lb quad in the bed. Qt Power Service, and qt 2-stroke. 4000 miles on the clock. I don't baby it but I don't beat it either.

Don't worry, I get buyers remorse in the worst way. I don't get excited about anything anymore. Maybe I would if I won the lottery. I said,"MAYBE".
Fuel mileage will improve.

Yeah, but bubba.... you have an '03. They are known to get 2 - 3 mpg better than the "610" motors.

The best milage I have gotten to date on my truck is 18.0mpg. This was unloaded, with the Edge on 4.3 driving 68-75mph from Northern VA to Northern PA. Lots of hills up there. I was not being nice on the throttle at spots, but kept the cruise set most of the time. I hit only a tiny bit of traffic. I have 315s and 4.10s, and an NV5600. I am taching just over 2000rpms at 68mph, adjusted via the Edge and verified by GPS. During my normal commute (16 miles round trip, mixed) I am averaging about 16mpg, sometimes up to 17 if I stay off the go-pedal. It is hard though with all the idiot drivers around here

Overall, I'm fairly happy with those numbers. Oh, and I have 15K on my truck right now with about 2K of that towing my Jeep (~6000lbs).

I get up to 23 mpg if I drive 65 mph. 70 mph and I'm down to around 20mpg. 80 mph and I'm down to 18mpg. I get 16-17mpg in town. I've done a little work to my truck too...

Of course the hwy mileage drops way down if get into the mountains....

Mileage will increase quite a bit with break-in, which can take 20,000 miles, like it did for me. With 4 wheel and probably 4.10's, 20 mpg might be wishful thinking for you IMHO. There are plenty of us 2 wheel 3.73 people who do get 20+ highway consistently. Hang in there awhile it WILL improve!!
Cheers

Now, my factory 6 disc radio buttons do not all light-up at night. The MODE, 1 and the DIN button do not glow.

I am kind if bummed out. Maybe because its late...

I will try and get the dealer to flash the computer with that TSB #18-003-06. I hope that helps my MPG....

Probably should do the radio thing at the same time as the flash, Hopefully it is a bad bulb and NOT a bad radio....

With a lock-up torque converter the slush boxes get pretty good mpg's these days!

Two buddies of mine with 03s got their BEST mileage AFTER 100k! One with a 05 now has about 90k and said his last haul(horses.about 9k) from here to Florida and back was his best yet pulling.Average was in the mid 14 area by hand at no faster then 70(He likes 68 or so) with his 05 4x4 3.73 auto dually.(he STILL has FOUR orignal tires on it!)

My 05 just turned over to 12,000 miles.. I took it on a short 300 mile trip combo with some hills but all freeway.. Overhead wobbled between 19.7 and 19.9. Hand calc was 18.4 for the whole trip...

Average over several tanks around town being nice I am getting 13.9-14.5 by hand and the overhead shows a constant 15.3-15.4

My '06 Mega Cab 4x4 6-speed, which is just a couple weeks old, got 16.8 the first tank mixed driving, 14.8 pulling my boys enclosed race car trailer (doesnt weigh that much), and last fill was 17.5, mixed driving, even pulling a half dozen anhydros ammonia tanks at 25 mph. All figures are hand calculated and odometer corrected since my 295's give me an extra .5 mile for every 10 that shows on the odometer. I'm very happy!!

I have a 2004 2wd 305 555.
I get about 19 mpg(imperial)70% highway/30% city year round ...better summer...worse winter.
If you are getting only 12 mpg...something wrong.
BTW, I have 40K miles on mine...no real towing to speak of and I have not really noticed an improvement in fuel econmy since new...should be broken in by now.
Runs good and burns no oil...I use stock oil from the dealer.
It really sounds like you got a problem.

I did the TSB flash today...

I took it on the highway and it went up to 16.5 MPG. I was around 13MPG BEFORE the flash. The truck only has 300 miles on it.

The flash helped out a lot!
