I leased my first 2 Dodge cunmmins Trucks.. I have a very good, High paying job, but since I was fresh out of college I could not get financing for a purchase because of my lack of credit history. So I leased for 3 years each then had the credit and have bought ever since! Good thing was, I didn't lose my butt becasue I never turned the trucks in, I sold them outright for more than my lease buy out!

The fuel mileage probably isn't going to make up for the price of the option plus the higher (right now) cost of diesel fuel vs gas. Although, I have never leased anything, so I am not sure what the difference in payment would be on a diesel vs gas truck for lease. If that is the only reason you are buying a diesel vs buying a gas, it isn't worth it - maybe leases are the opposite.

The better fuel mileage does mean something, but with fuel prices the way they are, and the extra 5k in markup $$ for the diesel, you gotta ask yourself, are you REALLY saving anything?

Leases are a ripoff. If you can't pay cash for something you can't afford it but if I was picking between one or the other I would definitely finance to buy.

Wow..... #1. Not all leases are "rip-offs", some actually make very good sense. #2. I lease all my business trucks (much better at tax time), and I could pay cash for any of them.

I leased my truck at a lower interest rate than I could have purchased. The extra mileage charges;if any, at purchase are the same price as at return of the truck. I chose a 2 year lease. I get to drive the truck for 2 years with full warranty so there will be no costs on my part. If the truck is a piece of s**t I will gladly give it back to Dodge when the lease is up. No cost to me. If the truck is a good truck I may purchase it and keep it for a few years. To me, there was no comparison. The price of the truck is the same if you lease or if you purchase. It is just 2 different ways to finance the truck.

I used to lease trucks and SUV’s, but these days the better option for me is to buy outright. The reason for this is tax purposes; let me explain, a lease you are able to write of the payments but when I buy the total value can be written off in the year you purchase. This is why I purchased two new vehicles this year, I know by looking at my p&l's, I know exactly how much I need to write off this year to keep me from paying hefty taxes in 2007.
Just my input

I do not agree with the 'If you can't pay cash ,you can't afford it stuff",not everyone has 40 some grand in there pocket to drop on a new truck.

I bought mine outright but thats the first vec I bought for myself since 87.

I had a few tractor trailers(4) leased from a company I drove for and that worked out nice, but thats way diffrent then a pick up,but going on the buy out right idea,if you got a min of 400,000 in your pocket then your a better man then me.

Crap if you got 40 some grand to drop on a new truck help a brother out and get me a job were you work.

5k ????

Isnt the diesel like $6500 for the engine, $1200 for the auto tranny, and an extra $900 for some enviromental stuff?

That very well could be at this point. When I bought my truck back in 04, it was like $5500 for the diesel option.
