BS Detector needed

I'm about to be new to diesel ownership and I need a good BS detector. I want to compile one from the input of all of you who are more experienced than I am in this field.

What are the things that people will try to sell me that are entirely, or largely, made of BS?

I've been suckered before so I want to know in advance what I need to avoid. I don't want to be wasting my money on enhancements that are not worth the money paid for them.

TIA,

DJL

Shovelhead, that is the correct meter but it is restricted for use when listening to Company Management:
-promises,
- corporate governance statements and
- reports on application of the business principles and code of ethics.

But the meter does work well for package accessories and best price statements and quotes when buying a new truck (or used truck).

Throttle body spacers. Tornado. Anything that attaches to your fuel line with zip ties. And don't buy anything from anybody who claims to be a doctor.

...........any Diesel that doesn't get at least 20mpg at 75 mph while towing 10k is a lemon, the dealer should be falling all over himself to replace it for you, before word gets out...........

The diesel truck market is pretty competitive, so most of the BS is in the advertising claims. As far as features go they add up quick, and you need to figure out if they're worth it. Look at some of the 'what did you wish you had/didn't need' threads. I wanted a stripped down model and a couple of friends have bought Laramies, and the most puzzling feature to me are the leather seats; "..wow, the leather seats are hot....yeah, it helps to put a towel on them in the summer....wow, the leather seats are pretty cold...yeah, they get cold in the winter, but check out these seat warmers..." :^)

I guess I'm weird though, as one of them asked a question about some feature on the radio, I paused, and said that I don't think that I had ever turned it on :^) Too many years riding motorcycles I guess.

............there's two types of Powerstrokes, the ones that have already blown up, and the ones that are about to.........Duramax heads are made out of crushed beer cans, you can still read the logos on them if you look close enough........any automatic transmission behind a Cummins engine is destined to suffer spectacular, catastrophic failure, if not today, it'll happen tomorrow for sure........

This performance add-on won't void your warranty.

And when the dealer's service department gives you grief about it, wave the Magnessun-Moss at them and watch them shake with fear.

The 2500 (of which there are usually many on the lot) will tow as much as a 3500 (of which there are usually very few on the lot) claiming that the only difference is in the helper springs on the 3500 (ignoring the little GVWR sticker in the door).
