British gas prices
Wild Ram, I think I've seen you around town a couple of times. I've got the '04 Quad, CTD (SO), 4X4 Deep Molten Red SLT with a 70 gal cross bed Transfer Flow tank in the bed (as of last Friday). See ya around town, Dave
Most of the price of fuel is tax. Europe is very pro-environment, so they tax fuel heavily to discourage consumption.
I wouldn't mind if prices were that high here. We would still have some oil left in the world when I retire in 35 years. At current rates of consumption, we will be out of oil in about 40 years unless more oil is discovered. You can bet the oil they are still pumping in 35 years will cost much more than today as supplies dwindle.
If we had $5 fuel here, oil consumption would probably drop by 20% or more in less than a decade. Auto makers would actually start making vehicles that get good mileage and are smaller. SUV and RV sales would probably drop like a rock though.

Simple fact is there is plenty of oil and it’s our own fault for placing the restrictions on drilling off of California /Alaska. Certainly the cost will increase since demand is rising and supply has not increased, this is obvious. Also future pressures for smog restriction and everything else will add taxes to the already over taxed fuel.
In 40 years we may be driving a truck propelled by an electric motor which is powered by fuel cells / batteries charged by a diesel motor.
