Guys who have done this,
My kit gives me 2 options, use the relay kit or just plug and play HID/ballast.
If i use the relay harness kit do i still have HI/LOW beam ?? it sure as heck doesn't look like it, i don't see how the LOW would come in.
Thinking of just doing the Plug n' play part.
Factory harness plugs into the HID bulb and then goes to the ballast and back,

I've been running PIAA but they don't last, 4 months on the first set turned them in for replacement and they lasted 2 months. Great lighting but too much trouble. Both times mine have gone out was sitting warming up and the voltage drop on a cold engine got the best of them. I think the ultras are a better wat to go.

Hey guys, I know we've debated this a hundred times and there's always some new info that comes of it but... I'd like to remind you of something. Before you go and order a set of bulbs on line to save a few bucks, go to one of the chain stores and read the box. The information there is interesting. We've all seen the commercials that claim how great bulb "A" is compared to bulb "B" but did you know that when it comes to headlight bulds, most manufacturers are comparing their new buld to another manufacrurers bulb powered to only 80%. It's not apples to apples! I bought the Silver Star Ultra's and although they seem a little better than the stock ones, they're not that great.
Here's the note on the main page of the Silver Star web page. The link is included also.

* SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra Products brightness comparisons based on coil luminance measurements. Headlights dim over time by 20% or more and timely replacement results in increased lighting performance.
Claims based on measured comparisons between SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra product families at 100% light output and standard halogen bulbs at 80% light output. Actual performance may vary by product use, vehicle model and usage.

A headlight harness is worth far more than simple lamps. Best lamps are a minor change. If you can get 13+ V at the headlight socket it's an enormous difference over 11V. Lamp brightness increases by well more than half (80% by some estimates). A harness and new lamps -- any sort -- are worth the small time and trouble.
The HID's may seem nice but glare to oncoming drivers is unacceptable.

As of right now the best halogen bulbs on the market is the Philips X-treme Power. +80 and it's pure white. No stupid blue tint that actually blocks some of the light and decreases the lumens.
I tried different bulbs (except for the X-treme Power) and also did the wiring harness upgrade. The harness help some but I still wasn't satisfied. As Rednax mentioned voltage has a big part in light output. Bulbs are rated at 100% @ 13.5V. Anything less than that decrease the lumens. Example if the output voltage from the TIPM is 12.2V the bulb only has 67% light output.
Then I went to 4300k HID's. Bingo!! Made a world of difference. One thing I noticed with HID's that the headlights must be re-adjusted down. I have done three vehicles so far, two Dodges and one Ford, and everyone had to have the lights re-aimed lower.

best plug n play halogen replacement bulbs
I, like many others, can't stand how short the life is on the Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. I've upgraded to SOLUX bulbs which last as long as standard halogen rather than only around a year like the Ultras. They're NOT super-white/blue-ish but that has nothing to do with brightness. That said, they're noticeably whiter and definitely brighter than the original bulbs...they advertise 80% brighter, street legal, longest beam and best replication of daylight (4600k) of any halogen bulb. So far, so good - I love them...especially on my high-beams...and I live in the country (very dark) and use my lights quite a bit.

For best light you need what is called color rendering. The best way to get this is with a yellow blend in the light. Ever look at stock factory headlights coming at you? They have a yellow tint to them. White light is not as good. HIDs are the best but they do not seem to work as aftermarket products. So I just drive slower at night and put up with the stockers.
