Exclamation Breaking News- Death Wobble Recall?

Ok, got a call today from the dealer (where my truck spends much of it's time). They told me they got advance notice today that Dodge will be recalling a large number of late model 2500 and 3500 4x4 Rams in order to fix the steering geometry and a few other things. If this comes to pass it should be a LARGE recall and will hopefully fix the Death Wobble issues. Fingers crossed. I'll post more here as I find information!

I have to admit to being on the golf course when they called me so I heard just the bare details like- they will be fixing my truck! But I believe he said 2003-2011. Should be released officially tomorrow. And yes, I think if you have receipts that you had to fix it on your own dime you could probably force them to reimburse you.

THAT would be excellent. I've got my receipt ready to go. Though I"m sure they'd come up with a loop hole "Oh, you had a TRE go out so you'd have had to replace it all anyway" At that point I'll produce the receipt fro the month previous stating I had steering problems and asked for the work to be done then BEFORE the TRE went out

Ok, just running through the conversation in my head.

Thanks for the info yall. So, print out the notice and go to the dealer?

I wonder:
  • What does the inspection procedure entail?
  • What makes it obvious the outer tie rod needs to be replaced?
  • Does it have a part number to reference?
  • It is the orientation/angle that it sits?

I just imagine going to the dealer and them scratching their heads, saying they don't know about it, or just looking under there and saying 'you're fine'.

And I thought all the AE-AF TREs still weren't available for individual replacement? Has that changed in the past few months?

There is no date for the start of the recall, but dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the left tie rod as needed for free.
And if they think it is ok they send you on your way. If they know there is the potential for it to break, they should replace it (if still stock) no matter what.
