blown fuse

every time I hook up the car hauler, the truck pops the fuse for the back up lights. doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the plug, and this never happened with the old truck. any thoughts?

sounds like a short on the trailer wire.maybe there is a bare spot causing it to blow the fuse.

Blown Fuse

I had a blown fuse also on my backup lights. The service manager at the local DC shop asked if I had been towing. I told him I hadn't towed since last fall. He siad it is possible for the wiring in the trailer to cause the fuse to blow. I know the backup lights were working through the winter.

One other thought ... the automatic dimming rearview mirror circuit is tied in with the backup light circuit somehow. Anybody have any ideas how this might cause a problem? I've had problems with water getting into the center cablight through the winter. They replaced the lights with the new units that have proper neoprene gaskets. I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia and we get lots of rain in the winter.

thanks,
Roy

Good possibility- You might try removing the trailer B/U light bulbs and seeing if you still have continuity to ground at the trailer plug. A bare spot where the insulation is worn would give you that continuity.
