Big rig tires,,,,,

I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 dually diesel quad cab 2wd. I am planning on installing 22.5 Alcoas with 255/70 22.5 Hankook tires. I have been told I will need a 2 inch leveling kit on the front. They said the two inch kit would bring my front end up to the same height as a stock 2004 4wd. I was told I would have no clearance problems with this set up.
I know there are many opinions on doing this conversion, but I don't want to be flamed, just want your opinions on will my truck be the same height as a 4wd. My truck is totally stock and has the 48RE and 4:10 limited slip. I don't haul heavy at all. I have had my truck a little over three years and it just turned 12,000 miles. I mainly use it to tow my 24 foot enclosed car trailer weighing about 6,000 pounds loaded. Thanks for all your input.

You need to look up a guy named D.Wiggs here on the forums. He has done a beautiful job putting his truck together, and I believe he is running 22.5s on his megacab dually. He has also just set up a seperate website with a ton of great pics of his truck and a few other rides. He can probably point you in the right direstion.

Thanks Blacksunshyne. I have looked at his web site many times and I really like what he has done. His truck is a 4wd and my 2004 is a 2wd. I am trying to determine if a 2 inch leveling kit will bring my front end up to the height of a stock 2004 4wd.

Yarrr.... thnx be 2 ya! lol. Even though his is 4WD he might still be able to point ya in the right direction. I think there may be others that are running 2WD on 22.5s around here.

If you go to www.americanforcewheels.com, you can see their fitment guide and it will tell you what you need. I think thought that 2WDs were 4" lower than stock 4WD based on vehicle height from Dodge, but don't take my word for it. I am going from old memory.

Thanks for the compliments!

That setup will raise your truck exactly 2 inches and I am talking just about the rims and tires.

If you don't mind, how's the ride with the 255/70/22.5's? I've got the same truck but white and 2007, I mean 6 speed and all.

The truck rides great stock but I'm not really wanting to sacrifice the ride. I'm considering doing the 285/55r22 nitto terra grapplers to keep the load range E and thinking the ride will be better.

Anyone riding on the 22" nitto's with the cut down 22.5's? How do they ride?

I am happy with my 22.5 conversion. The ride is about like before, only a little stiffer. The larger tires do seem to follow road ruts more than the stock wheel and tire package. I did the conversion mostly for the looks as I don't tow or haul heavy. I am happy and would do it again. I sshould add, I did the normal road tread set-up since I have a 2wd.

Thanks for the info, your truck was one of the first I saw on the site after I bought mine. I've been kicking around all the options. I tow with mine, not everyday but I did buy it to tow my rockcrawler around the country every few months or so and it is my daily driver so keeping somewhat of the ride comfort is a must.

Anyone else with any comments? I'm open.

Anyone know for sure if the guys selling the big wheel conversions are actually modifing the wheels themselves? I've been told that they actually cut/true the wheels to fit the adapters, etc....

Reason I ask is the guy from the local big rig tire shop stopped by today and told me he had a new set of 22.5 Alcoa's that someone ordered and never picked up. Hmmmm.... this could be good for me I thought..... bad for the wallet but good for the looks....

I have a 2005 3500 and haul a 37foot Raptor toy hauler. I have been gathering up 22.5 wheels to do the conversion to my truck. I own a diesel shop so the 22.5 wheels are easy to get. I didnt know they was modifying the wheels to fit the adapters. I hope sombody could tell us the truth on this? Also my truck is a automatic so i was also hoping someone else has done this conversion hauling heavy loads to see how it is holding up with the bigger wheels. I love your truck Z06-LITE. My 3500 is also white and hoping to look like yours. THANKS for any help

I own an offroad shop and I've sold a couple conversions. One set from Chromewheel.com (they said the machine wheels/adapters to closer tolerances to reduce and vibrations) and one set from americanforcewheels.com (didn't ask but I think they build their own wheels) I'm currently looking into dieselwheels.com they build their own wheels and supposedly are the original guys that started the whole big wheel conversions. My local lowrider shop has done several conversions from dieselwheels.com and says they have it down and the also true the tires and also mount and balance the wheels with the adapters. I haven't talked to them personally but I have seen their wheels and they are sweet.....

Anyone else got any info?
