Battery temp sensor flash did not work (!)

Greetings all,

I've been reading this site for a while now and it is great.

I've searched for info regarding the P0514 code for the battery temperature sensor problem with the '06 CTDs, but I have not read about anyone that got the flash and it did not work.

My first visit the the dealer resulted in them replacing the sensor. This did not work. On my second visit, they claimed to realize that there was a new flash and they claimed to do it. They put a sticker under the hood, but did not write the TSB number on it. The wrote the labor charge number instead, so I don't know that they actually did the right flash.

A few days later, the CEL came back on, with P0514. Each time it lights, it is after I have used the block heater.

Has anyone tried the new flash for this problem and had it not work? I figured that I'd just ignore it, but the dealer says that when I go for an inspection in Massachusetts, that if there is a code in the computer, the truck will fail.

I've got an 06 3500 SRW.

Thanks

When you say replace...did you mean they put in a new one, they need to reposition the sensor.

No, I believe that they only replaced the sensor. Is there a TSB that covers the repositioning? If not, do you know where the sensor needs to be placed?

Thanks

Frankly, I'd like to just get rid of it. You're right, only happens when I plug in but not every time. Seems to happen more when it's damp and in the 30's and I'm plugged in. Just been ignoring it...restart 10 times to turn off light.

I had mine done by the dealer, So maybe someone else can help you on that...I heard it is mounted some how under the batt. on the drivers side, somehow it is moved up by the side of the batt. That probably don't help much, and its 20 below and dark out...so if you don't get a answer by May holler and I'll pop the hood.....

It's probable that the dealer has no clue, considering they replaced the sensor instead of reflashing in the first place.

Quite possibly the procedure was done incorrectly... maybe having another dealer reflash would be a good idea?

This is exactly when mine trips as well. It has been very warm here in the North East, so I have not had to use it in the bitter cold yet.

I thought of this right away. I did call them back and they now claim to know which TSB is the correct one, 18-005-06-REVB, but I want them to check which one they actually flashed the ECM with. They claim to be researching this further right now.

I just got a call from my dealer and they had spoken with "Star?".

It was stated that more than 30 trucks were reflashed so far in Maine this fall with a 100% success rate so they are questioning if the reflash was done correctly. I have an appointment to bring it back next week to redo the flash.
