The truck seems to be starting a little bit slower... the gauge reads a little low before I crank it, and it dips a bit when it does fire. Guess it's about time, they are 5 years old...

I'm looking at some optima yellow tops, they are 900 CCA's.

I was wondering if that's too much or if it will affect anything? Stockers are 750.

Mark you won't hurt a thing going to 900's. I've always tried to get as many CCA's as possible when ever I have to replace a battery. I think allot of folks like the Optima battery, they're just a little pricey sometimes.

 

And better to do it now. Mine always seem to fail at the most inopportune time. Like when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I looked into doing that for my truck but when they said $189.99 each I almost ran out of the store. I didn't need to replace them I just thought it would be a good idea since my Hellas dim when my stereo is a jammin

 

Won't hurt it I use Die Hard Platnums from sears. They replaced the oddesey batteries they use to sale. I think they are more than 900CCA (like 925?) and I've been fine for 5 months now. Motor turns over FAST.

 

Mad unless you are dead set on getting optimas or you are getting a really good deal on them I would go with the die hard platinums from sears. Way better battery for 189.00, of course this is just my opinion.

 

Get the Sears Diehard Platinums. The Platinums are manufactured by Odyssey Batteries, the best in the business.

Any specific reason you were looking to go with the Optimas. Ive always heard there were more of a specialty use battery for high amperage pull situations, winching, audio, etc, or for extreme angles off roading due to them being sealed.

Just curious, cause they are great units. Probably what I will replace mine with when the time comes, just really expensive.

I know on my 90 (single battery setup) I put a Duralast Gold from Autozone, (I know, El Cheapo) That was in 2000, and its still going strong, sometimes you luck out I guess. It was only around 70 bucks.

 

They back that rep with an 8 year warranty.

 

The Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery. It is perfect for vehicles with high-end stereos, winches or driving lights. The Red Top battery is an ideal starter battery. It is perfect for fast starts, racing, street performance, vintage and classic cars.

 

Every couple of years, Consumer reports does a battery study. They do a pretty thorough evaluation. The top three are Diehard, Interstate, and Duralast (Autozone). Their ranking seems to change a little bit, but those are always the top 3.

The Optima is usually in the middle of the pack. Unless you have a specialty application that you really want those unique features, you can get a better product for less money.

 

I'm not having any issues with mine except one leaks a little bit. Is it OK to replace only one battery?

Hello everyone!!

I have an 05 2500 and it is also turning over slowly before starting. The batteries are about 5 years old. The gauges spazz when I turn the key on and this morning, it would not shift out of 1st gear (auto tranny) unless I really spun the revs up - then it would shift. The check engine light also came on this morning. I suspect bad batteries and that the glow plugs are not heating up enough. The glow plug indicator light does not stay on the normal two or three seconds either.

Are these symptoms of a bad battery set?

What is the code? If you don't know how to check them...

We don't have glow plugs in third gens. We have a grid heater, and you don't need it till well below freezing.

The shifting problem could have something to do with the valve body or bands...
