Battery drain

I think I have pinpointed my battery drain to fuse #11 on my '06 3500. The fuse controls IOD-CCN/Radio/Underhood lamp/WCM/SDARS/HFM. I have no idea what any of that is other than the radio and underhood lamp. What should I start unhooking first to find out where the drain is?
Thanks, gunnie

Id determine which of these features you truck has and then start there.

Satellite Digital

Hands Free
Module (HFM)

finally found time to pull the dash apart and unhooked the electrical connector to the radio, it didn't change my problem. with the amp meter set on 200m it pulls 16.7 for about 20 seconds, drops to 11.2 for another 20-30 seconds then down to 3.1 for about 10 seconds then repeats this fluctuation constantly at the same intervals. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Where are you probing to get the fluctuation?

I have one battery unhooked and have an amp meter between the negative post and cable that attaches to the other battery so the draw is coming through the amp meter

about the only things it does have is the overhead console, the po has somehow disconnected the underhood light and I can't even find the wire for it. no sat radio or hands free on this. I must be missing something unless the overhead console could cause this.

Im pretty sure the WCM deals with the ignition system/syntry key system. I have heard of it going bad and causing a no start situation.

With no sat rad and handsfree and the radio eliminated, the next thing I would do is hunt down what happened to the underhood light. Thay may well be the source of you problem.

I certainly don't qualify as an electrical guru but if there is no light could there be a draw from the battery?

Im no electrical expert either...

Your dealing with one of the most aggrevating problems in my opinion. It hard to give any definite answers. I would think if there is no light then it would be no problem. But if a light was removed by a previous owner there is always room for error and some they did may be causing the issue.

No way should the overhead draw a 16.7a load. You could check the ambient temp probe for damage or a short. Do you have the Infinity stereo system? Maybe the separate amp module is wiped on that causing the draw? If not then look at the motion switch for the hood light. Maybe there is enough of a chaff to make a small short without popping the fuse. I know these are unrelated, but unplug them one at a time. Try unplugging your Edge, then each headlight. I see you did the headlight mod. You never know, electrical problems in one circuit can and do cause problems in unrelated circuits.

Keep us posted.

Where is the probe located for the temp sender? I'll try unplugging these items one at a time and report back. I agree electrical problems are a real pain. Hopefully this will work out and we can all learn something from it.
thanks for the replies,
gunnie

are you having any problem with your "SENTRY KEY REMOTE ENTRY" you could have a shorted wire in this system, check drawing 8W-39 fuse #11 maybe this will help.
