Battery ambient temp sensor crapped out...

Caused the engine service light to come on. Took it to the dealer and they hooked up the truck's computer to the diag machine and came up with this failure.

They just swaped it out.

Anyone else have this problem?

Second time in one year this sensor has been flakey.

DT.

Very common issue. It happens to alot of us. Do a search and you'll find various threads on it. It happens to me several times a year. I just ignore it and clear the code.

I'm not running a battery temp sensor on my swap.

I think this means I don't get fully charging current sometimes.

We should figure out the voltage/temp or resistance/temp relationship of that sensor and engineer a replacement. Wouldn't be hard to do.

Hey Buzzer,

How do you clear the code without bringing the truck in to the dealer?

Also, can you read it (the number) via the overhead, or some other way beforehand to see what it is?

If so do you know the code for that problem?

Sorry for so many questions...I like your solution better than mine...bringing the truck to the dealer.

Thanks alot,

DT.

I clear the code with a code scanner. I happen to have auto xray. There are several on the market that are moderatly priced that will read the code, describe it, provide freeze frame data etc. Some have the ability to also clear the code. I believe the code is 514 if memory serves me but I don't recall for sure. You can also see the code by cycling the ignition three times. It will appear where your odometer is located.
