Back up camera install ?

So Santa brought me a back up camera. It is designed to "turn on" or transmit when the vehicle is put into reverse. I skimmed over the directions, and it looks like the camera gets power from the reverse light wires. Anyone know which ones they are by color? I was thinking I could use the one that goes to the trailer plug as it might be easier to get to. It is the same color?

Any links that would help?

I have one for AVIC D3, anytime I put it in reverse it switches to the rear view. Nice at night because I have some dark tint on my windows.

I got one of these cheap ones from Costco. It was terrible. It transmits the picture, so there is a ton of static and its useless.

I bought one from http://www.coastaletech.com/REC_LOCKPICK.htm with the camera and its awesome. Plugs right into the Nav unit. You can also turn it on anytime, to look at your hitch or whatever....

The back jup lamp is usally the center post of the round plug. I don't know what color it is. As I recall, Dodge puts the pin out on the front of the spring loaded cover.

Yes, I will take some pictures of the completed install.

And, yes, it is the one from Costco. Now I'm a bit worried.

Reason I asked for one from Santa was because I have a topper/camper shell on my truck (hate it but need it), and with it being a Mega, it's long. The topper and the length are a pain in the tight parking lot at work. Also, I pull a bumper pull RV, and I have to hitch up by backing up a little at a time, then getting out to check where I am in relation to the ball. I always hitch up myself. I know there are other gadgets out there to assist in hitching up (magnets, mirrors, etc).

I'll post a report when I install it.

Cool

My buddy got the one from Sams Club , and LOVES it...not sure if it`s the same one as you.

He tapped into the light , as I mentioned above.

I haven`t seen it yet installed in his truck , but if it`s as cool as he says it is , I`m getting one....it`s only $100

I read on a Ford site an idea. He was going to wire his so he could turn it on anytime he wanted. This sounds good to me if you are pulling & wonder how your tie downs or load look.

I got the VR3 backup camera from Walmart. It is wireless, but you can order a kit for a cable from the camera to the screen so there are no issues with interference. A little extra work to install, but then you don't have to worry about it.

I wired mine to a switch so I can use it whether in Reverse or not - can keep an eye on the trailer hitch when I'm towing and going down the road.

I'm thinking about getting an extra camera and putting it on the back of the trailer - a couple of those cable kits to go the extra length since wireless gets pretty bad with that distance. Then I could keep an eye on people who follow too close to pick them up in the side mirrors.

Noticed Sam's Club had one this year with a much larger LCD screen. I'll probably upgrade since the 2.5" screen I have is a little on the small side. Didn't permanently mount my screen - just keep it on the seat or prop it up on the dash cup holders.

The only thing holding me back from getting one is the mounting options. I know some trucks/suvs have this as a factory option and therefore you can get the camera mounted in tailgate release, or other integrated parts which I think makes them less likely to get stolen. I'm considering a license plate mount and some type of security screws that would deter the casual thief.
