Now I am a huge fan of JL Audio, but will agree, very pricey, however with a little looking you can find reputable companies online that sell for dirt cheap.

Never did deal with Memphis and allways heard of them as a good but middle of the pack brand.

Focal is friggin great... MB Quartz aint shabby either.

If your looking for something that is priced decent and performs extraordinarily, take a look at Audiobahn, however, longevity leaves something to be desired. Ive seen more Audiobahn subs blow than any other, but man did they go out banging like some champs.
Couple of things in here that are false.
1) JL Audio is expensive. Period. You cannot find good companies online that still sell the jl's for cheap AND backup the warranty. Thats the big thing, jl's warranty is good but it wont back it up if its not from them or an authorized dealer.
2) MB quartz USED to be good, they were a great German company, but now are just chinese junk.
3) Audiobahn sucks, thats all there is to it. No SQ and just really **** poor muddy bass.

1. True, online dealers cannot offer to back up JL's warranty, but if you will consult my signature you will see just how much I personally give a hoot about a warranty, but that is MY opinion.

And on to 2. and 3., those are YOUR opinion...

We all got em, most of em stink.

Oh and by the way, I never did say that Audiobahn had great sound quality, what I mean was that they do slam..., well for the money you pay for them anyway...

More often than not, you get what you pay for.

2 is not an opinion, i just simply said they used to be german engineered speaker company but then they were bought out by a chinese company that now puts cheap chinese parts in it.

3. Is an opinion, but one that comes with expierence, whenever we would get someone that was like 'my audiobahn system slams harder than yours and it looks WAY better to' i will give it to them that there subs are pretty neat lookin but i would say that this statement was made to me and my friends more than 20x, so i would simply ask them that if i could strap one of our amps that does a TRUE RMS wattage that there sub supposedly can handle and would stick in a bass cd and told them 'your subs are going to blow, they will not be able to handle this, do you want to proceed?' followed by 'hell ya man i cant wait for you to be floored' 3,2,1.....BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM, pop.
'*** WAS THAT>!>!>,' 'O sorry, you smell that? Yea thats your coil being fried cause it couldnt handle true RMS.'

Dude, were basically arguing about agreeing, on some weird twisted level. Ok I call truce and will admit, yeah audiobahn is low end stuff, but to some guys that's all they can afford and for what you pay for it, its not all that bad. I personally have never had a single piece of Audiobahn equipment in any vehicle I have owned. My first system was a jensen amp and two bazooka 10's, talk about cheap embarrassment. But heck, I was a kid in high school and had some jam. Ive since had JBL, marginal step up from the 1st system, to Rockford, which I loved. Im also a big fan of Pioneer head units and catch hell for that too from some people, but I find them to be good sounding and reliable for the money. I think JL makes great stuff, is there better, of course. Is it expensive from a local authorized dealer, ridiculously. Can it be found online sans warranty for just about half of what you can buy from a dealer for, yup, been there done that, got a truck full of it.

I apologize if I seemed cocky in my other retort, didnt mean to be, so, lets just chill, and crank up the low end a bit....

I haven't done stereo's in MANY years! What ever Happend to Autotek? Are the still making stuff? There old Autotek 44 Mean Machine and thier champagne series Amps were the ****!!!

That's back when we would put 2 autotek 44's bridged down to 2 ohm's each on one Cerwin vega 12" that had dual voice coils in a tuned, chambered and ported box! And that one speaker would hit harder than anything and never blow!

Not to often you hear about people putting 2 amps on 1 speaker!!! That's real old school!!!

Someones got a real brain on here when it comes to opinions. I will back Memphis up because I've seen them win competitions (heatwave) and I have had my system for over 2 yrs now without having to even touch anything.

If you want bass and spl, Kicker solo barics take the cake. I have a 15" L5 pushing 1100 watts in a 4 cu ft Probox. I can't complain, it plays music very well when its tuned. I wouldn't buy anything else Kicker though but the solos. Its not to inconvenient to me either, i live out in the country and I can take it out of the truck whenever i need the room. And before someone starts mouthing about the Kicker not owning up to its hype, check out the solo xs and the monster solo 18".

sdguy, what amps are you referring to as being "true RMS"? There is about 3 companies out there that are "true" RMS & jl isn't one of them.

Yeah I had a Firebird back in the day and I had the Kicker CTF box with 2 8's in it with a Fosgate Punch45 on it... That was my first set up and that thing rocked! I later sold it to a friend who used it a a center channel speaker in his home theater! Quite a bit over kill, but his house rocked!!! LOL...

Kicker makes some quality stuff, but it has to be set up perfectly or it won't sound that great! Much like Cerwin-Vega's... If they are not in a tuned box... hang it up!

ProBox is elite

http://www.proboxrocks.com/products/...12/index.shtml

You can get a loaded box with probox tuned subs for their specific boxes. Anybody who has one know they are top quality and worth EVERY penny.

Probox does make good stuff, bud of mine has on with two 10's in his F150 and its awesome, most people dont believe its only 10's.

When I got my foxbox I looked at probox, but the only offering they had for Dodge at the time was that old, bandpass type box were the subs were open aired at the bottom and the upper portion of the box made a type of bandpass... didnt work all that great. Never heard there new style box but following there rep should be great.

Remember to stay away from most of the cheaper wooden boxes you see online, most are junk.

Over the past couple of yrs they have been doing some extensive work for the Dodges, I was a beta tester for their dual 12"s. They had me try it with my existing 12" Comp VR Kickers and they were great, put out 128db. They then let me try out their loaded subwoofers they were making for the box and I got 130db out of them tuned in at 45hz and 100 peak rms less at that. They have since upgraded their subs 3 times and are currently working on a bulletproof ported system for 10s and 12s. I ended up giving the box back and got a 4 cu ft box (in the pic above) for 50% off. They are the strongest most well built boxes I have had the pleasure of experiencing. And I wanted to use my 15" L5 more.
