Anyone just remove the overload leaf?

Anyone here just remove the HUGE overload leaf? I'm sick of the kidney pounding I'm taking just driving down the road. I hardly ever tow, so the loss in towing capacity isn't an issue. Basically, I'm looking for the cheapest way to get a bit of a softer ride in the back. Up front, I'm up to par with my thuren/Lorenz setup with King 2.5"s, but the rear end hops around like a jackrabbit! Eventually, when funds permit, I'll be putting some King 2.5"s back there too. I already know about the leafpacks, but right now I'm looking to do it without spending $300. THanks!

Either a Thuren, Carli, or Lorenz mini pack, OR full replacement springs are your best bet.

If you dont really tow much, or heavy, id go with full replacements...

You truck is going to sit like this \ ....... Tail dragger.

Maybe you can get some blocks to go in there at the same time.

Full replacement springs are like $700 bucks?? I think.

If you're going to spend the time taking it apart I'd go with Lorenz mini packs and see if you can leave one factory block in there, which I don't see why you couldn't. That should give you about 1.5 inches of lift and it will sit nice and level.

Shouldn't affect ride height that much!

Pull the fat, straight leaf and the leaf with the rubber pads on it. That should help, but it will lower the rear about an inch. Pay attention to u-bolt length. I'm not sure if this will make them too long. And if you don't like the stance, throw a 1" block in there.

First I took them out but the 2wds don't have much travel so I took a bandsaw to the ends of the OLs and put them back in. I thought the long leafs would need a little support in the center so I made the OLs about 13" long. I figured if I made a mistake I could put more air in the bags. It worked good and the other springs are plenty for running empty. I still only need minimal air in the bags. It helped the ride especially at RR crossings and bad dips. Craig

Yeah you can cut them with a hacksaw and save some time.

And Pauly, yeah it's going to tail drag like a motha.... \ <----- this is my new symbol for tail draggers. An inch and a half guys, inch and a half... Make them level, it doesn't take much work.

I'm sitting with 2 inch front springs and added 1.25 to the rear and the truck sits just perfect. A little rake if you look at it from certain angles but from the side it is perfect... Maybe .75 inches of rake to it.

My springs net me 2-7/8" up front and the rear is pretty much the stock height with the mini pack. And I'm about as level as the eye can discern.

My Lorenz springs said 2 inches but I was careless and forgot to measure the front.

But I did measure the back and my Lorenz mini packs gave me 1.25 inches of lift.

I don't think Lorenz uses Deaver mini packs so my results might differ from yours.

Yeah, I guess lots of little things can make the difference. My coils on a quad cab short bed net closer to 3-1/2" of lift.

Yeah that is true. Lots of grey area in the math.

I've seen a truck with what I think was called the Recon Kore lift... It had 3 inches up front and 1 inch in back that looked like \ . Plus it needed longer control arms. The main thing that caught me was the tail dragging though.

Does removing/cutting the overloads increase axle wrap?

I'm sure it would as would adding blocks.

I just finished putting on my Thuren/Carli hybrid suspension on the 1 ton MC. The front netted 2- 5/16" of lift. For the rear with Carli's minipacks netted 1- 5/8" of lift after leaving the stock 3 spacers on the bottom of the pack and removing the 1" thick bottom overload, replacing that with the minipack and building up the rest of the rear pack like stock (re-installed secondary overload or what some people refer to as the leaf with the rubber pads on them). The ride improvement for the rear was significantly improved but the rake is / (butt high), which I need when the slide-in camper is on, then it sits almost level maybe even \ (butt low).
