Another blend door question
Another blend door question
I have the broken blend door on my '06, I dropped the fan motor and found a cone shaped piece of plastic rolling around in the squirrel cage and the blend door just laying on top of the housing broken and not attached to anything. I removed the blend door and reinstalled the fan, the volume of air was much greater and the noise and vibration completely gone. My question is if I leave the blend door off will the heater and A/C still work or will this somehow let outside air into the truck which in the winter will be cold and hot in summer?
Thanks gunnie

I think the recirc door broke off, not the blend door. The cone shaped piece you have that fell into the cage goes on one end of the door on one of the corners. That is the pin that attaches the door to the motor that swings the door between fresh and recirc. Mine did the same thing. Your A/C will still work but not as well. It will be mixing fresh and recirc air. The heater will still blow hot air.
The blend door is the one that moves when you select which vents the air blows from (floor, dash, or defrost vents).

Fuggetaboudit dude. Mine broke a couple years ago. Worked good in 103* temp. Just no recirculation. I have not missed mine. Enjoy your beautiful Ozark mtns, you won't miss it.
haha, too easy, I think I'll take your advise. I can always fix it later if I don't like the results. Thanks for the input, We're heading out to North Carolina in a couple months to enjoy some of your great countryside. If I didn't live where I do I'd like to live where you do.

You will find that in the winter, your passenger floor will be cold while the drivers floor is warm. Without the recirc door in place, outside air car blow straight through the upper end of the box, where the recirc door belongs. Look up there with your glove box removed and you'll see what I mean.
Mine broke the day before a week long elk hunt so I zip-tied a piece of cardboard over the interior side. Yes, it's still there..........

since my door was completely broken and laying on top of the box, I don't really understand how it was supposed to work. does it pivot to cover the interior side screen/grill and then pivot to cover an outside air vent or did it close off the hole in the top of the box that I removed it from?
Thanks

In the mean time, you can always tape over the recirc grille, or if you want it on recirc, pull the fan and stuff something up by the screen where the fresh air from the cowl vent comes in.
Pulling the dash isn't really that big of a deal, and to do just the recirc housing you shouldn't have to evacuate the AC or take the whole case completely out.
