Air Conditioning

I have read some of the other threads about A/C problems. I'm not sure wher ehte issue I have with my Truck's A/C falls. The truck plain and simple doesnt put out cold air. A little air comes out when the A/C is on but it's not cold at all. Any Ideas?

ok i been here. you have to determine if the blower is working, meaning pushing out air or not.
what do you mean a little air comes out? do the speeds of the fan work as you increase to max
or is litterally a little air coming out(small amt)?

Blower is working. Compressor I have heard kick in. As for the Amt of air I wont be home till the weekend, but I will confirm then. Whats a tstat and stat, Temp Gauges on the A/C inside the truck, if so yes, Max cold. And no cold air comes out at all.

Sounds like you should start with the recirc door (behind the glove box).
Just remove the glove box door, drop the fan (4 screws), reach up in the duct and grab the recirc door (it will just be laying there, covering the "draw hole" for the a/c)and turn it longways and pull it out.
Your a/c will blow air, however your freon level may still be low.
If it blows cold your next move will be to decide if you want to run regular a/c (cooling air from outside) or Max a/c (recirculate air from the cab) all the time. If you choose regular a/c you're done.
If you want to go with recirc (Max a/c) you'll have to block the large rectangular area where the door came from with something, you can stuff some kind of material in there or figure out a way to stick the door in there maybe some silicone or other type of adhesive.

I have mine open (reg a/c) ad have been quite pleased so far.

There is also a replacement door housing which I have heard is relatively inexpensive, the downside is that you have to take part of the plactic trim out to access enough room to do the job, not sure what that entails, I know it is less than dropping the dash but not specifically what to do.

My take on the replacement door housing is that the motor that moves the door is still going to turn way too much so the door would probably break off again sooner or later.

Good Luck

buy a set of guages ($60 to $300) and check your pressure readings. you may want to get a book on how to check out your a/c system.

Well the easiest way is to go buy a can of refrigerent from Walmart along with the applicator hose and start putting some in. To do so start the truck turn on the ac full cold, max air. Connect the line to the low pressure side and open the valve from the can. While doing so it would be best to have a thermometer in the center vent in the truck. I would allow about 1/2 can at first. see how much the air temp changes. Now one thing about doing it this way is that you're guessing on what is needed. Also my truck doesn't cool for squat at idle but once on the road it's icy cold. (Not sure why?)
The best route is to get a set of gauges. I got mine from Harbor Freight for about 40 bucks.
Next you'll need to research what high and low differential pressures you need in respect to the outside temp. I never can remember so I always have to search this sight and google until I find my numbers
