Question Air Box ?

Would putting holes in the factory air box to allow more air flow set off any sensors? mass air flow and so forth. and would it hurt or improve performance?

I have the mod air box. I like cutting a large hole in the bottum and using a drain pipe with a dryer hose attached to get to cooler air. If you just cut holes in the box the turbo will be sucking in hot air.

Sorry to hijack, but there is that shroud directly in front of the intake that looks like the ONLY purpose that it could possibly be serving, is keeping larger stuff, such as bugs, out of the intake...would taking that off be beneficial? Because it looks like it would allow for MUCH more outside air to hit the intake...

Thumbs up Stock intake

Last weekend I hauled my camper up I-8 east of San Diego to an alltitude of 5900'. With my wife and I,my truck weighs in@ 9000#. I'm running 285's and Smarty was on #1(30hp+timing). With the nanofilter and stockbox,I hit maybe 900*egt's and 200* water temp. Ambient temp was 85*. This truck runs cool and I can't see a need with Smarty on #1 & #3 to change anything. Much hotter climates and higher hp. mods might require intake mods, but for my setup the stockbox is fine.

No, cutting holes will not cause any sensors to give bad readings,It will keep your filter minder from indicating a dirty filter when its not.I wouldn't worry about the hot underhood air issue, thats mostly marketing hype to sell products.People on several of these sites have ran underhood temp probes in various spots and at any thing above 45mph they have not seen temps underhood of more then 7-8 degrees above the ambient outside air.

I did the Cool Power mod to my airbox and installed the AMSOIL nano filter. I could have just cut out the bottom, used a toilet flange and dryer type hose like shortbed rv did, but I live a long way from a hardware so I bought the kit and installed it.

I did notice a gain in throttle response, faster spool-up, slightly lower EGT's when empty and towing. I have over 10K since that mod, no additional dirt in the filter over what was there before the mod. The AMSOIL filter is nice and easy to clean. I am very pleased with what the mod got me, and it had NO effect on the warranty.
