aftermarket alarm systems

I wish I'd had the factory alarm installed. Anyone know a cost to go back to the dealer and have it added? I looked at Circuit City but fear I'll loose my current keyless remote or have to carry two. Anyone got any good experience with a certain alarm system in the Dodge? How does the factory one work?, good, too sensitive?

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you looking at it for the remote start feature or for the alarm itself?

Just the alarm, don't need remote start or windows up. I'd like one that chirps once if you bump the truck and only goes off if someone climbs in the bed to get my tools or something. You know not going off every 5 minutes. I checked with Dodge and it's a $250 add on plus labor.

Anything from DEI will do the job much better than the Dodge one.

Viper, Clifford, Rattler, Python, Hornet to name a few.

Biggest expenditure will be the labor.
Mine was about $250, but labor shot it up to $600.
Well worth it IMHO, as it's a rat's nest of wires that need to be hooked up.
Mine has the remote start, turbo timer along with the alarm functions.

I'd go aftermarket but be leery of the install. I did my truck myself and it was pretty hard. It took me about 10 hours, but I soldered every connection.

As far I know my truck has the factory system already and just has a starter kill function and door alarms, no shock sensor at all. I dont know if the add on dodge one will have a shock sensor. I used a DEI Valet 554r which I believe is the same as the Viper 791.
