Adventures in De-Badging...

This morning I de-badged my truck. It went well, and for that I credit this discussion group. There is a ton of great info that the "search" function can reveal. There's also a 1/4 ton of questionable info that can be revealed . Anyhow, I bought the "3M-StripeRemovalWheel" from Napa. About $30.00. This was worth every cent. I did a de-badge in the past on my SubaruWRX, and although it went well, the task took some time. For the truck I used a "zip-tie" to "saw" thru the adhesive. This was easy. Then I took the stripe removal wheel (attached to my drill) and carefully rubbed off the adhesive. Then in 3 steps took my Meguiar's PaintCleaner, Polish, and Wax to finish the job. You can't tell they were ever there, and this clearly adds to the "look" of the truck. If you're thinking about it, I say go for it. You'll be done in an hour ...

I used a hair drier to soften the 3m tape, then some old 10# test fishing line to saw mine off. Didn't have the wheel tho..........the glue residue was a bear.............I have some fingertip blisters from rolling it off the doors........NEXT time I'll have one of those wheels for sure !

I used a heat gun and some fishing line to remove mine. But if you go that route be carefull to not crinkle the chrome finish as I did.

Once the badge was removed I used some paint thinner to remove any left over glue from the two sided tape.

To put them back on I got some two sided tape that the dealership has..

Go buy a can of 3M adhesive remover spray from Walmart. Use the fishline method to remove badge and spray to remove adhesive tape. You can even spray the badge prior to make the fishline saw better. I used this trick on my Harley to remove reflectors/badges.

we use these guns at work to take decals off. I dont know who exactly makes the guns but they are like a right angle grinder but they have the kind of rubber wheel mentioned earlier. Wurth products sells us those wheels so i pretty sure they sell the drill kind. I am down in texas and i dont know if they are nationwide but i think they are. But they sell all kinds of other usefull things
