Adding Factory Daytime Running Lights to '04 Ram

My '03 3500 Ram built for the US market has no daytime running lights and I want to add them - the OEM way only - no aftermarket items.

Has anyone accomplished this that can help me. Is it a simple reprogram at the dealer (my local dealer is not knowledgeable on it) or is there more to it - maybe a module to be bought.

I'm not really interested in a debate on the pros and cons of the option, I need to install them since I am being transferred to Canada in several months and it is a requirement for import into the Great White North.

I'd appreciate any help!

Just a thought, but possibly a Canadian dealership could flash your ECM with the Canadian Firmware that has the DRL feature enabled. It may be possible that a US border state would have access to this firmware too. I am almost positive that there are no additional parts needed and this is simply a firmware update. Good Luck!

Check with a dealer but I think that there is a module required to make them work. I don't know if it is possible to do it due to the differences in overseas and US models.

My local dealer is clueless. I'm going to be visiting Canada in the next few weeks for a couple days so if I have time, I'll try to visit a dealer there and see if they can steer me in the right direction.
I'll be certain to post my findings when and if I get anything.

If anyone else has the straight poop on this, speak up!

Just curious but why do you want Day Time Running Lights? If I need the lights on for safety, I just turn them on. I'm in the Military and I sure makes the MP's mad when you pull up to the gate and can't dim your lights.

The day time running lights are not as bright as the low beams are. The dealer has to flash the computer but if memory serves me right ,they have to change the country to make the truck think it's canadian. There is no more modules to buy. There has been other posts on this , you might try the archives. Good luck.

bwuest,
As I mentioned above, I'm being transferred to Canada and it is a requirement for import.

Mike_Boutet,
Thanks, that is good news. Sounds real simple, hopefully my local dealer can figure it out!

Mike is right, just have dealer flash computer so it's set for Canadian not US. and you will have your daytime running lights....nothing to buy.

Thanks to all for the replies,

PROSOUTH and those interested,

I'm going to go into the dealer tomorrow and try to have it done this week. I'll post the details once accomplished.

If they give you that DEER IN THE HEADLIGHT look tell them to call STAR(tech assistance)and they will walk them(hold their hand)through it.
