What I'd do for one 70* day! Its been in the 90s, but the heat index is in the 100s

I'll be doing Cbrahs original mod today. The temps here in Tucson are out of control and the AC units in these trucks are super weak. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Cbrahs, did you take the lines off to put the valves in or just cut them where they are?

Edit: grammar

Well, i managed to get 1 of the trucks in our little family fleet done today. I got dad's '05 done and man, what a difference. Deception21, i just cut in place on my dad's 5.9L. There is more than enough room to get in there and tighten the hose clamps. I hope to get my '01 and my '08 done this weekend and my uncle's '06 sometime next week (he's gonna be on the ocean in his new boat all weekend).

I got my truck done today at lunch. It's laid out just like cbrahs original mod. I kicked around the idea of the bypass, but it was just too much extra plumbing. If I can find a decent diverter valve so I don't need a T, I might change it later.

Just running around this afternoon, my temp gauge in the driver vent showed about a 5* drop from what it usually is. I'll check it more tonight on our drive up to OK.

I have a 3" bodylift on the truck so it makes it easy to work on. I left the hoses in place to make sure I did not cut off too much and kink the hose.

Just did the mod, the same as cbrahs original 2-valve and it worked out great. I haven't driven in extremely hot temperatures yet, but it seemed the air was colder, quicker than usual. Turned the dial all the way to hot and nothing but cold air came out, it was awesome. Whole mod took me maybe half an hour. Just cut section out, put the hose clamps on the hose, insert the valve, and tighten the hose clamps. Easy as pie.

I'll be doing mine this weekend. I will first drive around with a thermometer and then check again after.

Our LOW temps here are 75°

here are a few pics. i had to cut the size down to get them on here. that coupled with the tight space makes the pictures marginal at best. anyway, here they are. the first pic is of the return line valve and nipple attaching to just above the turbo. second and third pics are of the intake line coming off the head, and you can barely see the valve back there (tight), and you can make out the bypass line going straight to the left in the second pic.

a little more space would have been nice. but for the benefit i got from this mod, i would have about given a limb for it. it's so much nicer in the heat of the day now.
