AC performance mod
Tech thats always worked on it is a 20 year veteran.He can do two heater cores or evaporators a day etc.He's as good as anyone I've known on heat/ac,auto trans and electrical.Its NOT him.

Well I did this mod on my 06 and thought I would post up my results. I have a 30 min drive home from work. Quad cab, manual, tinted windows, sunroof closed, etc. I have kept a thermometer in my far left vent since I first owned this truck to keep an eye on temps since I know it's a problem for these trucks. When I head home after the truck is closed up all day the temps reach a blazing 140*!!!!!!! Lately it's been in the low 90's in North Alabama and I'd get at best 60* air on fresh or 45* on recirc after running all the way home. After reading this thread I went to Lowes and got two valves with 3/4" nipples and a bag of hose clamps. I only installed the valve on the line coming from the head, the feed line. I've been running it for the last few days with very little improvement. It seems to run a few degrees cooler but not much. The coldest temp I saw this afternoon (with outside temp reading 93) was about 42. More data will confirm.
I may put in the other valve in the return line but first I think I need to check the freon level. Dad has a set of gauges that he's going to bring up on their next trip so we'll see then.

How does one check the freon in these? I assume you must have gauges, which I don't and don't know of anyone with them.
What type of freon is in our 05, 5.9 trucks? I have seen the R134 at the stores, would it be safe just to add 1 can or can you have TOO MUCH in the system and have it not be good.
If adding a can, where do you put it in or does it say on the R134 can for instructions. Never really looked.
I never have had good a/c, works but takes awhile to really cool the truck down and this mod seems pretty easy (plus like the cost of it) to pull off if it will make it any cooler inside.

Thanks. I will check around to see who has some.
Still, I think the Mod would help a little. But I have never checked the flow level and being 3 years old, 97,000 miles, I guess it is time.

I have been looking at my truck and found that the coolant on the return side goes thru the tranny cooler (auto tranny). I am going to do the bypass valve so the cooler gets good flow. My tech at the local dodge dealer did his truck and did the bypass as well. probably a good idea for us AUTO tranny guys.

it has been raining for a couple days here but i will as soon as I can. running it with the valves open right now til the bypass is completed.
