The AC in my 1998 red 1500 has never been touched.Works great and even in 97 degrees only need recir for a few minutes and the go to fresh.I know its a smaller cab.BUT the AC in my 2006 Mercury Gran Marquis works as well or better and its auto, starts off in recir and then moves to fresh on its on.The interior in that car is near the same size as my 3500 truck plus the car is BLACK.It cools MUCH better then my WHITE truck left on RECIR all the time does in same 97 degree day.

...which, where I live, is all but from about the 15th of December to the 15th of January. I need all the A/C I can get. I may be spoiled, however, having owned a few Chevy's in the past few years. I had a '99 S10 ZR2 w/120,000 miles and after 5 minutes of the truck running the A/C was on the lowest setting, the vents were all pointed away from me, and I was STILL cold in the dead of summer down here. On a humid day, that A/C would make it rain inside the cab of that little pickup. If i could have my perfect truck it would have the body of a Ford, the drivetrain of a Dodge, and the A/C of a chevy, no doubt.

Well, after 1 1/2 year of great A/C mine is acting up again. Biggest pain in the but ever on these trucks is the A/C. Very Poor design. I need to check the refrig. level and see what is going on. I just haven't had time to fool with it. Driver's vent cold, Passenger vent, hot air. Where's my gun!!!!!

Your system is no different than any of these other 5.9s that these guys have.

Just wanted to make sure. When I went to do the install, I noticed that the return line from the core T'ed into the line going from trans to trans cooler and wanted to make sure i wasnt "interrupting" anything that would come back to bite me in the butt later on down the road.

Yea drove my truck 100 plus miles toady.Ac is just so so at times rt side fogs the thermometer glass and jumps more then 20 degrees difference the left vents.mid 90s out and ac at times is 60 degrees at times its mid 40s.I think in the humidity it should be colder.Either way it is nothing like the ac in my 1998 1500 or my Gran Marquis.

going from cold air to warm air and back sounds like the freon level is low. when was the last time you had the charge checked?

Lucky dog!!!!! I am going to check the charge on mine again because it started acting stupid a week or so ago. It worked good for about 1 1/2 year. In my opinion the condensor on these things is not effecient at all. If it ever gets heat soaked it has a hard time cooling back down and the reason it gets heat soaked is because the darn ECM controlled fan clutch is not optimal. This also causes the high side pressures to spike when you first fire up the truck and turn the A/C on full blast as we all do in the South which I beat keeps pushing the refrig. out because of the excess pressure. You will notice the compressor cycles on and off when it is doing this because it is hitting the high pressure switch. This time I am putting an electric fan on mine. We shall see. I am out of town this week AGAIN!!! so it will have to wait a while.

How about just installing a manual switch to engage the fan clutch at will?

I told Chrysler more then once I was going to keep hounding(hence nickname) them until we got at least 18 months of it working correctly. Its never made it past 3. Rep and dealer have had no issues working on it ever.Plus my truck only has 28k and change on it with the ac being the torn in the side thats never been fixed.I have also spent MONEY with the dealer. My fluids etc.but I've had them on three differant trucks do fluid changes, tires rotated and balanced, install the headers on the 1998 1500 and other stuff.I'm a equal opportunity picky person and the techs know it and have always done me a good job at a fair price etc. They have never grumbled about working on this ac issue and its just not purely a technician issue.

No thanks. I would rather do it without any reduction of fuel mileage and it also be perminent. That way if the wife takes it, no issues, but I doubt she ever will. LOL I hope Summit still has the slimline fan I was going to use.
