I lost mine this summer. It wasn't covered under warranty. Cost around $250? Its easy to do it yourself, just 4 screws and unplug 2 wiring harnesses. Dealer wanted 200 bones just to do that.... yeah right.

Mine went out as well. I noticed the pump running continuously, so I pulled the abs fuse.

I'm assuming from the last post that parts of the abs system are covered under the 3/36?

I was thinking that cleaning the abs sensors might do the trick. I'll post up if it cures the situ.

so i got my used abs module in. place i got it from guaranteed me it tested ok. i swapped them out and my lights did not go out . the dealer originally told me they plugged my truck in and the brakes were thrwoing like 7 differnet codes. They determined that it was the abs module and needed to be replaced. told me 45 bucks for the diagnostic and 540 bucks to get a new one and put it in. I told them no way and picked it up. So now what do i do? There is a chance this abs module i got is bad also but highly unlikely. I could swap with someone to see but cant do that now. I am at the dealer cause if it is something else, they would of came back and said somethig else is bad and racked up my bill. DO i take my truck back to them or what????? any ideas on how to proceed with this? I at least want my 45 bucks back from them since the diagnosis wasnt right

so i tlaked to the dealer and he informed me that when changing the abs module, the vin of the vehicle has to be inscribed in the new one in order for the lights to come off. This sounds a little fishy, anyone have an answer?

Yes, the CAB must be programmed with the DRBIII when replaced. Also be aware, there have been issues with moisture wicking in some of the grounds that makes it's way into the abs module connector causing all sorts of problems. Makes sure the connector is dry and clean, then look for the group of wires that are bolted to the fender above where the abs unit is located. make sure that the open part of the wires face down so moisture will not run down inside.

It's no wonder the abs pumps go out on these trucks, it seems like anytime you have to stop even kinda fast without a load the abs pump will growl. And don't even think about trying to downshift while braking...the abs pump will all but shut off the brakes!!! How intrusive!!!! although it probably is not that bad in autotranny trucks or trucks that have a load...but empty it's just scary!!!
Do your self a favor if your the only one who drives the truck, pull the abs fuse and practice emergency stops at ALL speeds in a safe area, try simulated lane changes(swerve) under heavy braking, try pulling onto the shoulder under heavy braking, try it in the rain. You may not want to WASTE (IMO) your money on a new abs pump. Instead spend that money on some electical tape (to cover the abs dash light) and some new underware (to replace all those soiled ones from driving with abs for so long).

ABS has it's place...like my girlfriends car (or anything she drives!!!!).

My 98 CAB Failed..replaced with a similar one from a same make and model. lights went off and abs worked. no dealer programming needed.

called one dealer. said each module has the vin inscribed in it if it is used and that you need other modules from that truck for it all to work.
I called the place i bought it from and they told me the dealers were wrong and that it can be reflashed.Said they do it all the time. I called another dealer and he said a used module will have certian parameters that are programmed in. Some of them can be changed but if certain other flashes were done to that other vehicle it could cause problems in my vehicle. i know my truck runs like ****, tranny shifts like crap, speedo is off. I guess i will just fight to send it back and get the black tape out

You can do that on a 98, not on a newer one.

There was a recall on my '06 for some kind of ABS module. I took it in and DC replaced it. Only had 1200 miles on it when it got replaced. They also added some kind of roll over vent hoses to the fuel tank, what ever that is.
