9004 vs 9007 bulbs

OK.. I bought a set of Silvania Silverstars for my 03 truck. The parts book listed stock replacement bulbs as 9007s but silverstar replacements as 9004s. I got the 9007s. Any ideas as to the change up number.. did I screw up?? 9004s have 55 watt highbeam and 9007s have a 65 watt highbeam.

Also what is the easy way to change the bulbs.. It looks like a PITA.

9004'S will not replace the 9007. They have a different element configuration and the tabs that hold them into the headlight are in different locations. What you need are the silverstar part number 9007 st.

9007ST is the headlight replacement number.
9006ST is the replacement for the foglights. (Recommend highly!!!!!)

Changing the bulbs is a serious PITA!!!!!

If I have one complaint about our trucks it is the way our headlight assembly attaches to the truck. There are 3 bolts holding the headlight assembly to the body. 2 are easy to remove but the third is kind of hard. You will need an extension to reach it. Be careful not to lose the bolt once it removed. Once all of the bolts are removed you will have to tug on the whole assembly to "pop" it loose from the body of the truck. After that there is nothing to changing the bulbs. Just be sure not to touch the bulb itself. Also 9007 is the right bulb.

My 01 Chevy HD had the market cornered on changing the bulbs. 2 rods ran down behind the headlight assembly and held them to the truck. Turn the 2 rods away from the assembly and pull them out and you were done. Changing the bulbs in that truck was maybe a 2 min job.

9007's are the correct bulbs; 9006's for the fogs. Silverstars are worth the cash. They are more of a pain then GM's for sure, but not that bad once you figure out how to do it, provided you have the right tools.

I just changed my headlight bulbs to SilverStars this morning. Can't wait to drive it tonight to see the difference. I did noticed that the SilverStars is a bright white, almost blueish compared to the factory light which is yellow.
Also, I'm going to convert my foglights to 9005 instead of the stock 9006. 9005 is for highbeam use, 700 more Lumens than the 9006. Over on the TDR is a thread on doing the mod, nicknamed the "Fogzilla".

Just a note -- I had some bulb questions last week and found that Sylvania has very good customer service and were more than helpful.

As far as tools for removing the ront headlights -- I found myself in a bind and needed to get them out and didn't have the correct torx bit with me. The stihl chain saw tool is the same size.
