Arrow 6 Spd Or Auto?????

Hey guys. My best buddy is looking at buying him a new Ram 2500 CTD. He hasnt yet made up his mind weather stick or auto on the truck. I told him that I was part of this awsome group (which he will be joining soon) and that I would ask everyone what they thought and comments on which is best.
Thanks for your time and replies.

If he's looking at the new 6 spd auto vs. 6 spd manual, I say it's a toss up. 48RE vs. 6 spd manual, get the manual. It's more bomb friendly.

if your going to stay close to stock power, auto

if your going to get more power, stick. a clutch is cheaper than a built tranny.

At least that was my decision. I will say I never had a problem with my 99 and the auto. I did not know better back then though.

He should drive both and pay close attention to the RPMs of the 6 speed at 65-70 MPH. Way to high. Extra RPMs burning fuel and wearing parts for no good reason. What was Dodge thinking?

Just traded in a 2002 6 speed that I loved and never thought I would own another auto again. I had a 2000 auto that I traded for the 2002. But with the gear ratio of the current 6 speed I had to go with the auto. Plus the Mega Cab pretty much does not exist with a 6 speed. I had to have the Mega Cab for my fast growing boys.

I have not installed my 5th wheel yet so I don't know how it will do, but my research and playing around with it empty seems to indicate the 48RE addressed the problems with the 47RE at stock power. The 2nd, 3rd TC lockup will take care of the previous problems I had.

All this applies to the 5.9 2007. I have no idea about the newer engine and transmission.

Either transmission will work great. The deciding factor should be if he what he intends to do with the truck.

If he wants to race or will be doing alot of start/stop rush hour traffic he definately needs an automatic.

If he wants to control the shifts more, maybe for heavy towing, then get a manual.

If he is going to bomb heavy, both the Auto and Manual are gonna cost some money for upgrades. However, my stock auto is holding 466 hp with no problems so far with sensible driving.

What he said, except if you wanna race with an auto, he should also be prepared to shell out BIG bucks making it stronger.
