Question 6 Point Plug Wiring Question

Just had a gooseneck ball and an electric brake put in my truck. Now they tell me that I can't put a 6 point plug in the sidewall because of some kind of short it will cause in the truck causing about $600.00 worth of damage. They do say that I can splice onto the plug at the bottom if I am careful and put my plug on. Can anyone give me some info? I have a 2006 Quad 4X4. I have never owned a Dodge before, so this is all new to me.

Thanks,
Janice

I installed a 6 pin pollack connector and used the flat four connector under the bumper. I bought a wiring harness kit for the trailer side flat four and made a direct plug in. Can tap into the 7 pin RV connector for the electric brake signal.
Will need to find a suitable ground or tap the RV connector also.

Yeah, that 2006 "integrated power module" is a real PITA. If it were me, I'd probably make an extension cord that went from the factory 7-pin connector at the rear bumper and run it up to the bed as neatly as possible.

If you splice into the factory wiring and subsequently fry the IPM then I'm guessing you'll be paying for the repair. DC really F'd up with that IPM.

I just spliced into the plug at the bottom by the bumper and ran the extended harness under the bed up to the socket imbedded in the floor of the bed.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. I will do as you suggested. I sure don't won't to mess anything up, or pay any for any extra repairs.
